Front Steering Track Rods for Phase 2

Does anyone have spare steering track rods for Phase 2 car that I can buy?

My LHS is jammed solid, presumably from rust so I cannot get optimal wheel alignment.

The track rod ends (7) and ( are still available but not the rods themselves (5) & (6).

Even an info on alternative rods, such as those from which Laguna vesion, would be great.

Have you tried the hot spanner on them? A quick cook with oxy acetylene usually works wonders 383642136632 eBay item on eBay UK, gives all dimensions so might be the right one?

Haven’t tried heating it up with oxy yet.

I haven’t looked closely how to take those track rods off the car, especially where they connect to the steering rack.

Threaded into rack just behind the universal joint. All will be clear once you remove the gaiter :approve:

Lets hope I can unthread the tie rods from the steering rack. I may end up needing the steering rack and tie rods!

The inner joint usually comes off OK, as it's under a boot and doesnt corrode.

Once off the car and in a vice they free off easy enough with some heat, while off whack some new track rod ends on, theyre a common part and cheap enough to replace.

i have to replace my track rods and track rod ends. The suspension components on my car seem to be afflicted with rust and so am replacing all the crappy ones. On the track rods, the exposed threads are flaking away so am looking to replace both sides, rods and ends. An earlier post says they are no longer available.

does anyone have any source for these parts?

I can help you with a LHS track rod. It's second hand but quite usable. PM me if you are interested.

I would suggest you get them bead blasted and inspected before you make any decisions, 1mm of steel generates 10mm of rust so what looks horrendous can in reality be quite Okay. If still good to go get them powder coated or better still Sheradised and coated :approve:

Sheradising vs Galvanising

In simple terms, sheradising requires high temperatures and a rotating drum in order to vapourize the Zinc which then clings to the steel, whilst galvanising also requires high temperatures but involved the steel being dipped in a range of baths.

Sheradising vs Galvanising

In simple terms, sheradising requires high temperatures and a rotating drum in order to vapourize the Zinc which then clings to the steel, whilst galvanising also requires high temperatures but involved the steel being dipped in a range of baths.

Not quite the same process as sheradising uses zinc powder so is a much finer and controlled coating and does not clog threads up! A few microns thick, whereas galvanising is much thicker and more robust and involves dipping components into liquid zinc in a bath, due to volumes and temperatures there is an alloying at the surface between the zinc and steel which gives the high bond required for the much thicker coating. :approve:

Yes. Front track rods, track rod ends, wishbones, anti-roll bar are the same.

Bottom balljoints, stub axle carriers, shocks and springs are not.

The rear ones are Laguna, the fronts are Clio V6 specific.
