Front Hubs and Caliper Cap Screws

More useless info for the memory bank.

BIG LETTERS AS ITS IMPORTANT !,

DO NOT MIX UP THE FRONT AND REAR CALIPER MOUNTING CAP SCREWS, THEY ARE THE SAME SIZE M12, BUT THE FRONT ONES ARE 1.25M PITCH THE REAR ONES ARE 1.50M PITCH, SO THEY WILL SCREW IN BUT WILL WRECK THE THREADS.

Front hubs are different, but seem to have the same part number ( James ?)

All front hubs are Laguna items, but they are different pre and post 2005/6 on the Laguna cars, my V6 is a 2004 car built in 2003 according to the date stamps on the parts, but its fitted with 2005/6 spec front hubs

See pictures, later hubs have 3 mounting holes for a dust shield, the bottom caliper mount is cast into the main unit, also some extra ribbing around the bearing on the back side and a thicker wheel mounting face. I don't know if the early design is used on the Phase 1's, BUT they appear to interchangeable.

today found a pair of carriers from a laguna 2 2002 and purchased same, trial fitment with disc and caliper fits ok whilst on bench, caliper screws are same thread and steering angles look the same, hubs and splines the same!
imho the vee was a testbed for these parts that are now fitted to later vehicles, the only difference i can see is the laguna is a lighter made part, steel technology perhaps? i did check and found the part number the same as the vee, also the bearing is the same, if you order a new one you will get the superceded laguna part, so , no probs, however looking at them i would advise anyone changing one side should use common sense and change both as they differ in weight slightly and construction, the laguna one is slightly less bulky.

one thing i did come across was one of the bearing carriers was cracked and broken when i removed it, but did look ok. the crack was in between the two strut mounting bolts and fell apart when these bolts were undone, i think owners should be aware of this after an accident and get it checked Even if it seems ok.

will await comments!

Hi spike

If you look at my photos, the wheel mount flange is the bigest difference its thiner and has a different inner bore hole diameter were the drive shaft nut goes, that why I went a got the 2006 luguna item as it matched my 2004 v6 hub.

they will both fit but like you said, not good practice to mix them up.

I have a offside hub it's the one in the photo for sale should anybody need one, for a Phase 1, £40 plus post or collect Kent.

Cheers

Steve
