absolutely love the classic mini. seriously would want one in the garage in the future. what are your plans for it? Have you looked at the z cars website? mental!

Lovely Ian! That would be my colour of choice if I could change fella only I'd have a black roof. You putting steelies back on it or alloys? I take it your sticking with 10's with such a classic paint scheme?

Hey all,

only just seen your comments. Yes this is the original colour. It will be on white 10'' steel rims. The car only has 3 previous owners in its 50 years, mind you its not been on the road since the 80's. Im keeping it near standard. Even no oil cooler as I can't get the correct one and it was an option in '65 apparently. I am going with a big valve head and slightly lumpy cam - i like the slightly uneven idle of an old A-series.

I do have some period hand controls for it but don't think i'll fit them - the vee is tough enough on hand controls and thats with an electronic clutch. 2004 technology just lends itself to be drivable by me. 1965 technology was never intended to be driven by paralysed guys, back in those days we were locked out of sight in nursing homes! Mrs H will pilot it to anywhere it goes, she is actually really excited about driving a car 7 years older than her. Thats if I can keep her out of the Alpina!

My first car was a 71' mini 850. Ive had a Mk2 & 3 cooper S over the years. When I heard of this one I thought why not have a Mk1 too. I may or may not keep it long term. The valve keeps going in the right direction so if it doesn't get used much, after all neither does the vee really and I can actually drive that! It may go on the market.

I'll post more pics as it progresses for anybody that interested

Ian

That looks great, Ian, and the Tweed Grey with OEW roof is one of my favorites for the 'S'....very understated.

I had a lot of fun with Minis in my yoof, restoring a 970 S when I was at school, which didn't help the 'A' level grades at all! I only have to see a couple of minutes of The Italian Job to get onto ebay and look for a likely candidate.

Love the other cars in the garage ( in the earlier photos) were it's being fixed up. I had a few bubble cars as well!!

How have I missed this?!

VERY NICE INDEED!!!

I've got a mk1 Cooper S :-)

Hi George, we should meet up when mine is done. Two cars in common deserves a chat over a beer or coffee don't you think?!
