Description

1999 Renault Safrane 2.0l 16V RTE Executive

123,628 miles (as of MOT 8/10/2012, car is still in use so mileage will increase)

6 previous owners ( owners I know of, Ardlui Hotel (airport shuttle car allegedly), the guy I got it from, my wife, my sister and then me)

Mot'd until 30th October 2013

Taxed until 31st October 2012

Climate control, electric tilt and slide sunroof, electric front windows, remote central locking, leather interior, speed sensitive power steering, ABS, cruise control, automatic gearbox, cd player with steering controls, electric adjustable heated mirrors, Cobra Alarm system (have certificate of installation from CAT UK (Renault UK)), also have PDI check sheet

The ph2 Safrane (which this is) comes equipped with the 1948cc Volvo 4 cylinder B4204 series engine (known in Renaults as the N7Q) coupled to the Aisin Warner 50-42LE automatic gearbox. This is totally different to the older Renault made engine and gearboxes which had reliability issues. This engine and box combination are very reliable and used in the Volvo 850/S40's etc.

Good bits,

Important jobs;

Coolant/Anti-freeze change 123,598 miles (6/10/12)
Cambelt change along with oil and filter change at 123,200 miles (29/9/12)
Air conditioning system re-charge 120,000 miles (15/5/12)
Front brake pads 118,000 miles (21/4/12)
Automatic gearbox oil change 117, 600 miles (13/4/12)

The usual regular servicing

A host of parts replaced to keep it tip top.

Bad bits,

A few rusty spots are appearing, most notably the tailgate bottom lip.
The bottom of the rear arches also show signs of rust.

MOT History

1st MOT 27/Feb/2003 63,921 miles
2nd MOT 01/Mar/2004 71,850 miles
3rd MOT 25/Feb/2005 77,757 miles
4th MOT 02/Feb/2006 83,210 miles
5th MOT 08/Mar/2007 89,305 miles

There is no test for the year 2008 – 2009, the VOSA database also confirms this, I can only conclude the car was off the road for a year or more.

6th MOT 31/Oct/2009 94,486 miles (the first MOT with vehicle in my wives name)
7th MOT 11/Oct/2012 103,830 miles (car now my sisters)
8th MOT 15/Oct/2011 113,072 miles
9th MOT 08/Oct/2012 123,628 miles (car in my name)

A bit of history,

I bought the car initially in October 2009 (at 94k miles). The previous owner had bought it then put it in for an mot and realised it was too much work and beyond his skills (still have that failure sheet).

Being a mechanic I set about rectifying all the issues with the vehicle (it was for my then pregnant wife and our then 1 year old to use) which involved all new brakes, handbrake cables, suspension bearings, track rod ends, gaiters and so on and so forth. It then sailed through the MOT and has done so ever since, only requiring the usual maintenance and for this year another replacement of the nearside rear handbrake cable.

This year there was advisories issued for the front brake discs, there is some pitting on the inner face but the brake effort and balance is perfect so its not an issue.

The vehicle is great to drive, its especially adept at long distance cruising, its gone to Derby from Glasgow a few times and pretty much all over Scotland and has never missed a beat.

Everything on the vehicle works as it should. The climate control is excellent, the speed sensitive power steering allows 1 finger parking manoeuvres, the cruise control is an excellent economy device, the automatic gearbox allows stress free town driving and traffic jam creeping.

Why is it for sale?

As a Renault enthusiast (I have currently, including this vehicle 4 Renaults, the wife has a Laguna 2 and my sister has a Laguna 1) I want to use my other cars. I can't do this whilst I have the Safrane as I can't justify taxing, insuring and running more than 1 car.

Fore more info on the car you can look on www.retro-renault.com in the project report section and this vehicle is Luxo Barge. There you will see extensive pictorial evidence of the vehicles journey from its first purchase until now.

car is in GLASGOW SCOTLAND

Can possibly be delivered if we talk about first.

£500

MOT 30TH OCTOBER 2013

Car is ready to go, no issues, I need it gone so I can get back into the 19.

pm me here or reply here if interested and we can talk

Will add pictures soon

I have 3 19's here. One my blue chamade I have had since 2005 (I doubt I will ever get rid of it)

The Safrane is a nice car, very nice. It normally only has me inside it though so wasted space and it isn't quick enough.

The 19 has all the same toys (electric windows, sunroof, remote locking, electric mirrors, leather blah blah) and in this case it also has a trip comp which the Safrane doesn't.

Yes the 19 doesn't have climate control or cruise but that's all it doesn't have.

The 19 also has more room internally for me the driver, yes I know this seems strange but its true. So its a comfier car for me to drive.

So its for sale because,

The Safrane just isn't fast enough for me.

It doesn't handle as well as the smaller 19 16V (obviously)

Its only ever me in the car.

I need to get rid of 3 cars ()back down to a 2 car household and should probably get rid of some motorbikes as well as no one needs 4 motorbikes really) and the one staying for sure is my Blue Chamade.

back for sale as the insurance is up.

Only additions to last time is its now sporting 4 new tyres, has 132k ish miles and the tax is up to 31st October 2013.

It's going this week one way or another. I have got rid of her red laguna 2 thanks to the insurance writing it off again. The Safrane needs to go and the white chamade is going on the road.

Its on gumtree for £495 anyone on here can get it for much less.

If it doesn't sell the car will get crushed and tax handed in.

Cars in Glasgow, nothing wrong with it and all the things work and I'll update the progress report about whats happened since last time I updated which was a while ago.
