Description

1994/L Renault 19 16V Phase II 3-door: Gleaming and comparatively rare Brooklands Green Metallic with optional black sports leather upholstery. 2 former keepers, 118,00 miles, FSH, HPI clear, full MOT.

This is not your usual molested and abused 19, rather one of the best and most original remaining examples. It has a FSH which is full Renault main dealer history up to 80,000 miles. For the first five years it was an Avis fleet car supplied to the Whitbread company in London and was serviced regardless of cost at main dealers - by the end of 1998 a total of £5000 had been spent on its upkeep. It then went to a lady owner in Sutton Coldfield who kept it for three years before passing to the current owner in 2001 who held on to the car for almost a decade. This car has not been in the hands of a spotty boy-racer.

I have used this car as my main daily driver since April of this year, including commuting and two driving holidays to Wales - it is genuinely one of those cars that if it doesn't sell I will happily hold on to.

Sensible mileage, very low owners, fully stamped up service history (super rare for one of these), MoT certificates for the past 12 years, full itemised print out of work carried out and costs whilst being a fleet car to 1998 and invoices thereafter. HPI clear with certificate. Complete owner's wallet with owner's manual, stereo manual, stamped original service book, original security window etching pouch, two full sets of keys - so both with a remote master key, immobiliser key and original Renault RAPS alarm key. Unused jack and tools and original Renault Philips radio cassette stereo with working controls on the steering column, original number plates front and rear (compounding that the car is very original and not had a shunt) and original Renault "Elf Lubricants" decal in rear window.

This car is even nicer in my book by virtue of it being effectively the last of line "Executive" model but without the dowdy 5-door bodyshell or the ugly airbag steering wheel. The Brooklands Green colour is both eye-catching and classy and was only available for the last full year of R19 16V production, and is quite rare indeed on a 3-door car as most were 5-door genuine Executive models.

Standard 16V Equipment: Power-steeing, twin headlamps, front foglights, front and rear colour-keyed spoilers, side skirts and bonnet vent, tinted glass, electric front windows (one-shot down on driver's), remote control "Plip" central locking, sports seats (adjustable lumbar and height for driver's), sports leather steering wheel and gearknob, alloy wheels, uprated suspension, disc brakes all round, catalytic convertor, electric tilt/slide glass sunroof with blind, electric mirrors, 6-speaker Philips digital stereo with remote control stalk.

Extra-Cost Equipment: Leather upholstery and rear head restraints, ABS, metallic paintwork, multi-function trip computer. A Thatcham Cat II immobiliser with installation certificate is also fitted and fully functional.

This car is as it left the factory, no slammed suspension, no performance exhaust or air filters, no blinging alloy gearknobs or pedals, no speakers holes cut into the parcel shelf - and following my sympathetic exterior overhaul it simply looks almost as smart as it would have at a few years old.

The car starts on the button, idles smoothly, no hunting nor faltering, no smoking or overheating woes whatsoever, ABS light and catalyst lights illuminate and extinguish as they should do, very quiet engine - not tappetty as they often are, and crucially the gearbox is beautifully tight and precise with no whining or droning - no jumping out of gears - the gearboxes can be a weakpoint on these, not so with my cherished and carefully driven car.

I have had a full engine service carried out including new Bosch spark plugs and ignition leads. It only failed the MoT last week on headlamp aim, an exhaust gasket and one brake pipe - amazing result for an 16 year old French hothatch, and there were no advisories. This car does not have the crusty and rotten rear sills that lesser examples are invariably dogged with. This is NOT a project car, it needs no improvement or fettling.

The exterior now looks very smart indeed, and this car was not the usual scabby mess to begin with. The rear arches and front wings etc are all free from unsightly blisters, no bumper scuffs, no dents or scrapes, just a high lustre and uniform paint finish and colour all round. The interior is immaculate and totally original, no extra bits, no missing bits - utterly belies the car's age and mileage.

If like I did, you want one of the smartest, most original and nicest to drive remaining 19 16V's then my car would be hard to better. If you're not a 19 fanatic but want a dynamic, wonderfully handling, always sporting but refined, practical and frugal with it distinctive mid-sized hothatch but do not want to pay £3000+ for a Golf Mk2 GTI 16V, 205 GTI 1.9 or Clio Williams in comparable condition and with this impeccable provenance - then my 19 16V is worth considering.

The car comes with a full 12 months MoT right through to August 2011, is taxed until October, has had a full engine service, brand new superb Toyo tyres and is ready to roll.

thought all the exec,s had the black door cards? yours seems to have normal valver ones, grey with the red piping. not trying to put the car down it looks lovely fella

you sound a lot like me, become a trader buy virtue of you can't not buy a car, and if it sells it sells, if not you keep it.
i think i'd price all the cars your selling about the same,
'm going to disagree with probably a few on here, the 19 is fairly priced, still less than a scene taxed equivilent, and whilst its not the price i'd like to pay, i can see that someone would

It's not an exec Jay, nor is he saying that it is.

This car is even nicer in my book by virtue of it being effectively the last of line "Executive" model but without the dowdy 5-door bodyshell or the ugly airbag steering wheel.

well what is he sayin then? did you read the post properly then?

Yeah... "effectively" being the key word there... he's stating that in most ways it's the same as an exec, without actually being one.

Not really, just a case of certain items (leather, airbag, ABS) being standard on execs instead of an option. Plus the dark doorcards.

Not all execs were 5 doors though, 3 door ones are around.

Sorry if my grasp of the English language isn't too hot and confusion has resulted, it's definitely not an "Executive" before I am had up for misrepresentation, and neither does my description infer it is if read carefully, but appreciate there's a lot of piffle to get through.

Once one has factored in 12 months MoT, brand new Toyo Proxes tyres all round, £500 of professional bodywork plus sourcing a totally rust-free 16V bonnet, full professional engine service done at a proper garage including new Bosch ignition leads, oh and fiddly man-hours spent replacing the NS lock actuator and the blinking bulb which illuminates the fuel gauge behind the dash, trekking to Renault main dealer and back twice for the new window scraper trims and more... I doubt many would get any change from my asking price in any case - it was a 3 owner FSH car to start with after all. Some people want non-roadworthy and rusting project cars for £150, fair enough - some don't want a project at all and don't mind spending £1500 on a pristine and outstanding car they can jump into and drive everyday without niggling faults and jobs left to do.

If it doesn't sell then I've got a smart and frugal runaround for the winter when I want a change from my Bentley and BMW 635CSI. If it does sell I want Neal's silver 11 Turbo... I came so close to buying that red '86 Renault 9 Turbo on Ebay this week, thankfully it was too far away to view before bidding ended!

For what it's worth, I think it's reasonably priced if it's in as good condition as you say it is and the sills are completely rust free.

No need for the willy waving though.

I too have got a smart and frugal runaround for the winter when I want a change from my 19 and my push bike...

...I'd definately buy this 19 16v hatch, if it wasn't so far away.

SOLD to 1st viewer. Total car nut like me who purchased a 928S2 from me 4 years ago, rather sad to see it go actually as used it almost daily for past 6 months... he thought the clutch was a bit stiff, but he'd never driven a hot Renault before - - used the old "they're all like that mate" line - - which was not being dishonest from my experience.

as for "willy waving" errr - took me a while to cotton on to what you meant Neal, it was a true comment actually, but yes tis a bit "cringe" and a less than humble comment now I read it back. It was a defensive response to folks stating my lovely R19 was not worth my asking price, I get quite protective of my cars, irrelevant now anyway as it sold, so I feel vindicated.

When your R11 is in a state where it can be put into daily use please give me a shout Neal, and I'll feel no compulsion to engage in willy waving as have profiles on other sites for such lewd conduct.

Aye a good result. Just goes to show what's possible if you've got one in the right condition, advertise it properly and have a good attitude.

Did you point the new owner in the direction of this forum, Belugablack?
