Hi all. I know this is a turbo forum but i also know alot of you have experience with 172/182s. I am now considering an f4r swap into my daily.
Things i know. The top engine mount will fit on the existing bolt pattern next to the turret.
Things i hope are ok. The 4 speed gearbox will fit the f block (its an e7f engine in there atm) and give me mental acceleration, low top end and horrible fuel consumption.
Things i dont know and really need help with. Getting the wiring to work. Do i need to look for a cable throttle or can i use the non cable throttle as long as i have a pedal aswell. does this have a plug on the engine loom ready for this. and finally ive never been in one so i dont know if they have a push start. if so is this hard to overcome?
Any help would be majorly appreciated.
Progress will be documented and shown as a testament to your guys knowlege.

Hey Mark,

We're not just Turboed and Renaults here mate! :)

@Adey should be able to help you out I think? Sure he's probably done this before..?

Not a swap I've done but easiest thing to do Is use a mechanical throttle as a fbw will require a lot more work to get going. If I was you I would use a 5 speed as well. The 4 speed will shit itself.

Upper engine mount will line up as you said
If you use a 4 or 5 speed from an early mk1 like you have I don't think it will fit over the 172 flywheel? I know the mk1 5 speed fits a c series and i think that flywheel is 15mm smaller than the f series? That would mean downgrading to a smaller flywheel and clutch if it will fit the crank. It would honestly be easier to go full 172 engine and box. You will also need to swap all the 172 loom and a virginised/de immobilised ecu in. The ecu and body control module usually talk to each other for security.
Ask away if you have any more questions.

I'm going back to sleep now. Sick throwing up smelly child has awoken me.

Thanks adey. lots of goood info there.
My worry with a newer box is that ill need cable selectors and need to find new driveshafts. But if it doesnt fit then ill need to.
So im on the lookout for a series 1 172 ideally to have everything i need.
Are all the driveshafts interchangable on the mk1 clios or are they wider on the valvers. and wider yet in the 172s

Great. is it just the 182 thats cable selector then?
So the shafts are the same fitment. its just the length that changes among the range?
Will any deimobilised ecu work wether from a cable or non cable throttle?
This is great info btw.

They didn't change to cable shift until the 197 and meg 225.
Shafts should fit yes not a definite but I'm adamant they will do. The different lengths were needed to deal with the wider track really.
Drop Chris at efi parts an email or Paul at rs tuning. I think they both can do the immobiliser defeat and will be able to confirm if they can flash the later ecu with the earlier cable throttle software.

Ill give paul at rs an emal as i need to ask him some q's about mapping the megane aswell.
The boxes are going for hundreds on ebay. will the diesel and laguna ones fit aswell as long as the starter is in the correct place. i know the ratios will differ though

Look forward to it. Love stealthy oem engine swaps. Have built 2 clio mk1 c1j turbos, a 5 gt 1.8 16v and recently I did a campus c1j turbo swap too.

Yeah ive seen the c1j campus swap. we have spoken before on retrorides. i built the b18ft campus on there.
Im looking forward to the build. just hate waiting. Once i get an idea i need to do it there and then. but its to cold atm haha
