Hi,
In the thread "Leaving the Vee tucked up over winter", I see that JoePeps asked if anyone has ever used an exterior Carcoon. I have had these items for about seven years now and they are excellent. The cars are always fresh and dry when you go back to them - whatever the weather / humidity outside. I have had no issue with UV penetration harming trim or dashboards. They have a battery conditioner built in as part of the Control Unit so the car always starting first time is a real bonus!
The air is provided by a couple of 12V computer cooling fans so does not have the electricity meter inside whirring round. I was quite astonished when I realised this was all that kept that great big thing inflated!
Left totally outside, the fabric appears to have a life of about three to four years as UV and bird droppings wear away the shiny surface then the fabric weakens so if you tug at it too hard a rip can appear. Carcoon will re-cover them (which I have had done) to good as new - fixing a new cover on your zip (that matches the one on the base). If it snows, the Carcoon quickly slumps to adopt the shape of the car even with about half an inch of the white stuff. I think that the absolute best would be to use the exterior Carcoon under a car port. It is also worth putting a soft cover over the car before putting it into the Carcoon. The "bubble" blowing about in the wind has worn a little paint off the corners of the door mirrors of my Sierra Sapphire Cosworth - which rather fills the Carcoon. The Clio V6 is wide enough for this potentially to be an issue, too.
The people at Carcoon are nice to deal with but need sitting on to remind them of promises / deadlines. You place your order or send them the item for recovering, get told a date then have to ring back after the date passes. The lady on the phone doesn't like this so passes the phone over to a gentleman who you will speak to several times over subsequent days (sometimes weeks) before the lady rings you back again to say that the Carcoon is being posted out that day and will someone be there to receive it tomorrow? This notwithstanding, I believe that the product is good enough to warrant the inconvenience.
I have not yet used an interior Carcoon but am sure that it would be a great way to look after your car if there is any issue at all with the water-tightness / condensation susceptibility of your garage. You can have a clear one of these so can continue to admire your Vee each time you open the garage door. They also do not appear tempting to mice!
