exhaust question

if i were to buy a mk1 janspeed manifolds and sport cats...what exactly is stopping it fitting the mk2?

as it would be a full system (once i bought the rear box) then surely the only thing stopping it could be the shape of the flanges where the manifolds join the engine?? are these not the same on mk1/mk2?
