Elf Tranself NFP 75W-80 Gear Oil - good price?

Lankan

Active Member
In the process of readying myself for Vee 255 owenrship I note that the original Tranself TRP/TRZ 75W-80 gearbox oil is no longer available, or is very hard to come by, and that the PK6 gearbox in the Vee is very sensitive to the correct oil being used.

As such, can I ask the forum whether this is the correct replacement? If so, this seems a very good price for 5 litres. Is it not?

Thanks

Dulan

Good afternoon

That is a very good price, Renault retail price is £66.60 Inc Vat

I can offer 20% discount - £53.28 Inc Vat and we offer free delivery in the UK

Hope this helps

Cheers

Afternoon Paul. Thanks for your reply.

However, is it the correct substitute for the hard-to-find TRP/TRZ 75W-80 variety? It certainly seems so, but I would like confirmation on this from those who have either used this particular product as a substitue or are in the know.

Thanks

Dulan

Hi Dulan

I have purchased this oil and will be using it in my car when I return home from work in September.

My research showed that this oil is the replacement for TRP. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

cheers
Phil

Thanks Phil.

Please let me know how you get on once you do the gearbox oil change - would be very interested in your feedback.

Regards

Dulan

By very sensitive do you mean really rather rubbish? ;)

Well you said it - I note that your Vee is in for some TLC in the gearbox department....

Let's say, as I understand it, the gearbox is the Vee's weakest point/component (except perhaps for the poil packs), and being cable operated does not help either, which may result in the "sloppy" feel to the gear change I felt. I was advised by Scott G. (SG Motorsports) to not rush the gears since one could beat the synchromesh which could damage the rings, and eventually the box itself. Hence the reason for checking up on the correct oil to be used.

Have you got you box sorted now?

It might not be the strongest 'box in the world and it might use cables to operate but I'd go as far as saying that the "feel" of a healthy one once warm is very good........unless you put the wrong oil in it

Exactly why I am looking for feedback from those in the know whether there is a suitable substitue for Tranself TRP 75W-80, or are we saying that there is no substitute?

Feedback please......thanks

I went through Scott at SG Motorsport when it came to getting hold of mine. I'm not saying there isn't a substitute for it but I'm not familiar with any. Might be worth while contacting your local Renault dealer and asking if the PK6 box is still in production, albeit on another model. If they say yes, then ask what type is used from the factory.

Okay, thanks for that - will contact Scott - I am sure he will end up looking after the car anyway.
