Electric Wing Mirror - Conversion

Anyone know if it's possible to convert the standard manual wing mirrors on a R19 into electric? What parts do you need?

Interesting question, can't see why not, the wiring will take most time.

The mechanism is housed in the mirror so that should be ok but you'll need the control knob and probably have to wire them up yourself as I'm not sure how easy it is to separate the standard wiring looms from the fusebox etc. Also to make it look proper you'll need the blanking panels for the inside of the door ;)

You'll not find them in the same colour as yours but you could get a pair painted or just use the same black casing if they have the same fixing points inside.

just thought... need the new inner wing mirror trim for the switch as well. If the loom's there I'll think about doing this as I saw the switch and both mirrors on eBay the other day for just under a tenner for all three.

Second question - is it possible to do a electric window conversion? I'm assuming all you need is a loom from the fuse box and a switch and motor, possibly new regulator, don't know for sure as I've never seen an electric one.

You're mad! Why would you want to go to all the hassle and expense??? Surely it would make more sense to buy a car that already has leccy window's/mirrors etc???

PS. Oh Great Boobiemaster, please answer my 'Guna question

its an easy conversion to central locking, leccy windows and mirrors. If you can get the parts cheap enough go for it. If the looms theres its all plug and play.

Sweet, sounds like fun. If I can get it done cheaply it'll add some value to it hopefully :)

James, You willing to sell fairly cheaply?

sorry, scrap that, checked the doors yesterday, I haven't got the looms, so would have to wire them all in myself. Which I don't want the hassle of.

The loom won't be in the door Lewis - check for an oval blanking plate in the bodywork (inside the door area). see if the loom plug is behind that. Then buy loom and regulator / lock (or complete doors). The sealing grommet that fits the hole is attached to the loom....
