Dymag Carbon / Magnesium Wheels

Hey

Had a chat with a guy I know from Dymag today, he told me that there having the tooling made for the 18x8 wheel and they already have the 18x9 wheel available..

Basically all wheels are build to order and finishes of carbon and magnesium wheel centre can be specced

The wheels in 18" weight between 4.5 and 5kg each which is extremely light, baring in mind that any rotational mass is considered to be 5 times the weight saving compared to static mass to achieve the equivalent weight saving..

So if you save 6kg per wheel which is about what it would be, that would equate to 32kg x 5 which is 160kg of say bodywork/interior lightening!!

I want a set of these so so much.. but.. there £800 each + VAT and an 8 week wait once the tooling is complete, which means march earliest..

Maybe a group buy? we all have a bit of time to save up!

Heres a pic..

Too expensive IMO! [smilie=hide.gif]

Nice idea but IMO £500 inc VAT per wheel is the max you could expect people to pay. Andy yes thats still a frankly frigtening £2K for a set! [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Is there another option a little cheaper?

Peter :D

For sure its a lot of money, more than I would spend on a set of wheels for sure!..

Really I was just pointing out that they existed, and how cool they are lol..

Well a full Magnesium wheel would be cheaper for sure more like 2k a set i would have said but dymag's all magnesium wheels are horrible looking

Really a nice lightweight set of alloy wheels would improve things and would be more like 1k for a set, thats why i was looking into the speedlines but there not really into 1 off sets

They may be expensive but to me they look very cheap and lacking any style.

Useful if you need light wheels though. :approve:

yes they do look a bit tacky..

also...magnesium wheels on roadcars turn out to be a disaster...magnesium reacts with oxygen...

If it has no paint/powder coat on it!

well i think they look great and will be buying some when i have saved up the wonga pound for pound cheap bhp less weight quiker spin up

Good man!

Nice idea but to me they're show wheels unless you're so loaded you can afford to replace them when you kerb them hit, hit a pothole with them etc etc. Seriously you drop your +3k nip down the shops and inadvertently kerb it while parking, or a raised drain cover hits the inside edge and you're not looking at a £50 refurb at Lepsons - you're looking at another £800 wheel.

The weight saving is worthwhile to a certain extent; unsprung mass is always a good thing to reduce but I think the rotational mass considerations play less effect as you go through the gears i.e. the higher the speed the less the effective weight saving (take a look at the article on pumaracing site for a good discussion of the benefits of reducing rotational mass).
