Driveshaft Woes

HI
Hope somebody here can help me out.
Son's Logan has developed a weird fault on full lock with power applied there is a large disturbing force at the front wheels , like they are skipping over the road surface. When originally tested it seemed to be the nearside front wheel that was worst. Checked on parts availability and only complete Driveshaft from Renault. Autodoc, etc. had outer cv joints reasonably priced , so took a punt, got a wishbone and balljoint as it was lifting a fair bit too.
Stripped it today and could not get the outer CV off the shaft, Phoned my mate at Renault and he said `Nah they never come off we change the shafts' Well that's OK with someone else's money, but not mine. A little surgery with the grinder had the CV end off and it was changed over and built back up .
Further testing revealed that the problem has not gone away and that the disturbing force is affecting both front wheels. The old CV had a little wear in it, but I didn't think it was the problem once I had it on the bench.
It's for all the world like someone is feeding the diff ball bearings on full lock. I've had a fair few shaft failures over the years , but not this .
Maybe I did the wrong side! I had it in the air and on lock spinning the wheels and could detect a small click at both sides .

Anyone out there had this on any FWD car ?? Me and all my mates tend to specialise in the Ancient category, so as much use a a Rattlesnake in a lucky dip then . It is the J5R box . It is quiet and sweet shifting.

Any Wisdom gratefully received............................

A Click ,or clicking lock, is generally the cv joint. The odd steering on full lock, might be normal, as the car is trying to go straight on, not turn, and has been reported before. Take this with a pinch of salt, as hopefully others will be advising you on possible causes.

Strut tops? They end at a strange angle with lock on, l've had bearings seize up and end up spinning on rubber, think Logan is Clio 2/3 set up , can't really remember if they're like 5/9/11, don't think they bolt through turret like 5???

I'll have a look. I had it up in the air and it swings from lock to lock without any funny noises, but that is hanging, not loaded. It's for all the world like a tight plate diff, no sensation or vibes through the steering.

I caught up with an old friend who was Workshop foreman at our local Renault Dealer from about 87-2019. After a short discussion he reckoned it is the Diff gears that are the issue. this was a more common issue in the past and his description of the fault was bang on.
I need to get the actual numbers off the box and see what the options are. Secondhand or refurbished. I also need the numbers to be able to use the parts look up tools available here to see what if any parts are available. I have a feeling that the carrier is an interference fit to the crownwheel, so repairing may not be straightforward, if the housing is cracked for instance.
As usual there are about 40 different types of JR5, but I know there will be about 4 or 5 actual differences, but I have no way of knowing what is what. I guess all the 1.5 diesel boxes will be the same, but I may be wrong as there is quite a bit of variation in power output across the ranges. I believe this trash is fitted to Modus, clio, Kangoo, Meg, Laguna plus various Nissan and the Romanian Beetroot range.
If anyone has any information that would be a great help.

This isn't getting any better. I have found another Gearbox, so that solves that, but Me being Me has gone digging and it's annoying. I have got hold of a copy of the JR5 BV Manual. It shows the Diff, but makes no reference to it in the text, a later updated version talks about closed and open differentials, but again no mention in the text. I have found part numbers for what I take to be the open Diff, but wait for it, nothing is available from Renault. It is quite disconcerting how far down the road of planned obsolescence we are and shit like this proves it.

If they woke up and realised that we aren't going to just give up and buy new cars, the money to be made with manufacturer supported spares is probably not an insignificant amount (at least for more popular models).

Can you imagine how much R5 GTT kit Renault would shift if they started making it again?

No-one who works at Renault today knows they made the 5GTTurbo that is the fundamental problem
