Drifting Oulton Park 19th May 2009

Just for information ...

If anyone fancies doing a drifting day on Saturday here is the information taken from Track Action On-Line

<snip>
Oulton Park Stage 1 & 2 tarmac rally course.
These are tight twisty circuits which are surfaced with a polished low-traction tarmac that is ideal for practicing oversteer control and drift techniques.
The low grip finish is very easy to drive and slide on and has the added bonus of being kind to your tyres compared with most types of tarmac and concrete.
This is the ideal event for rear or four wheel drive cars and anyone who wants to learn more about how their car reacts in a slide without risking lamposts, armco or the boys in blue .

There will be instructors available on the day to help you with your drift techniques and numbers will be strictly limited to ensure that you get plenty of runs at the course.

PRICING
The price for the day is just £140 including drivers briefing, basic training and in car instruction.

Event Format: Drift Day
Event Price: £140
Pit Garages: No

Itinerary:
Signing on 730-830
Briefing 830
Start driving 09:00
Lunch 12:30-13:30
End driving 17:00

Please remember to bring the following with you if you intend to drive.
1) Your driving license.
2) A helmet (these can be hired on the day for £10)
3) Clothing to fully cover your arms and legs.

ive spent my vee allowance recently, but i would really like to do one of these days in a few months. i think it would be a great way to learn more about the car.

I am going in my Toyota GT4 but did take my Vee on a previous occassion when I broke my GT4.

On that occassion. I did let an instructor have a go in the Vee and it drifted really well, I wouldn't say you can 'hold' a drift, it was more a question of constant steering input to maintain the drift - amazing to be sat in the Vee with it basically sideways and all over the shop but under full control [smilie=bowdown.gif]

A quote from the instructure was along the lines of 'this is a proper drifting car, not like the likes of BMW where you can do it with your eyes closed'. I think he was referring to how 'engaging' it was rather than how smooth it could be drifted ...

I had varying degrees of success myself including experimenting with how easy it is to induce a spin, how sensative to throttle input it is and how little lock the Vee has. In the controlled and relatively safe environment of Oulton Park I think it is a valuable and safe way of exploring the Vees handling and characteristics. Oh and very much fun

Hi Ray,

I think Mossy is hoping to get there just after 1 as he is looking at a Vee in Chester with a friend. Not sure about Rob (if he is coming) and Jainy as yet.

I will be drifting from 9, but probably around lunch time makes sense but of course come any time. I think lunch is usually 12:30 to 1:30 ...

............... and yes poor old Carmen wasn't feeling too well at one point and the northern winds were bone chilling, so she was probably in the best place.

Glad you bot got back safely Mossy, thanks for coming over ... Have you got that engine cover fitted yet ? ... as I could imagine you in the garage at stupid O'clock

Your definatly right Martin. The Vee is certainly driftable but requires 50 times more input to keep it at its angle and more importantly get it back in line. The trick is to always leave a little bit more throttle in reserve for the exit and not go in too fast. Its quite obviouse its not the ideal car to do massive powerslides in but it can be done. Mine has stepped out a few times but with a bit of extra throttle control and quick (very very quick) opposite lock its easily catchable and you come out the other side feeling like the stig..........its not advised though.
