Door skin mounting points

Hi,

can anyone provide pictures of the inner mounting points from an original door skin?
And does anybody know what exact type of sealer they used to seal the skin on ph2 cars?

regards

I’m not sure there are many folk on here who’ve attempted this. The benchmark is going to be your other door.
Hopefully, someone on here will assist.

It might be worth throwing it out there to the Facebook groups (v6 owners) as there are some repair projects posted on there.

KMW recently had a V6 major repair project but the doors weren’t in need of correction.

The last page with all the measurements is quite helpful
but unfortunately the workshop manual doesn’t show the actual mounting points or brackets (or whatever there is on the backside of the skins) where the bolts are screwed in.

The rear wing mountings look like this:

Are they the same for the doors?
Are these Renault specific?
Or are these “common” mountings I can get somewhere off the internet?

I’ve followed Kenny’s Restauration on Facebook.
AFAIK he didn’t post any pictures of the doors.
I also can’t seem to find most of his uploaded pictures anymore (including the picture above I’ve taken a couple of weeks ago).
Tried to message him, but Facebook won’t let me :ihatpcs:

The other ‘reference’ that I’ve thought of is the book: Clio V6 Story (with various pictures of manufacturing process).

Hi there.

I'm currently in the middle of re bonding the brackets on my Phase 1 Vee door skin so it's all off. I'll take some pictures of it if it helps ?

I presume they would have used the same method to fix the door skins to the phase 2 Vee.

The inner mounting points top & bottom (4 nuts to secure inside the door) are just 4 bent pieces of stainless steel with an M6 stud welded to each one & they are then bonded to the inside of the door skin at the top & the bottom. The front & rear fixings are 4 square bond plates, 3 with a female M6 thread & 1 with an M6 stud for a dome headed nut & 19mm O/D washer at the lower front corner. I'm yet to be 100% sure what type of heads the M6 bolts had that were used to secure the door skins at the front upper & rear edge.

Can you tell me what bolts are used to fix the skin on a phase 2 at the rear edge ? ?

I think they originally used a dark grey butyl strip of around 4mm diameter to seal the skin to the door along the top edge but i don't think they used anything at the sides & the bottom. I'm pretty sure the rear quarter panels are sealed with the same type butyl strip.

Kindest regards

Jules.

Definitely!
As much and as most detailed as you can.
Ideally of each fixing point.

I can lookup dialogys tomorrow for the part numbers of the fixing bolts.
These should be still available from Renault.

I can’t help you on your other questions though.
But answers to these might come in handy when I’m doing the same job :approve:

So hopefully somebody that been there, done that, can share his experience.

OK, i'll take some pics.

I doubt the original fixing bolts will still be available from Renault as i suspect they would have been exclusive to the Vee & long since NLA.

My car has generic coloured zinc plated (gold colour) hex head set bolts (full thread) fitted which could have been standard as i think they would have just specified a generic suitable bolt as it was such a one off bespoke useage.

They could also have been socket button heads but this i have also yet to confirm.

If anyone else out there with a factory original phase 1 or 2 Vee could send a picture of their door showing what bolt heads are fitted that would help firm things up. I've asked Scott at SG but he's not got back to me yet.

I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it soon :race:

I looked but there was nothing useful in this book.
