Well I got an update from the insurance the other day - I passed the dog owners details on to the insurance who are getting their legal team to look into the situation. It seems if it was negligence then I can claim through the dog owners pet insurance (providing they have public liability). This would of course mean that I don't need to claim on my own insurance, hence no excess to pay and no claim on my record.

However it seems that the dog owners are disputing the claim by saying that they reckon the damage was done to the car BEFORE I hit the dog!! I wonder why they even have insurance if they're not going to bother using it....

My insurance seem to be saying that its up to the dog owners to prove that the damage was there beforehand, which of course is impossible for them.

It just somehow seems wrong that I'm going to have a claim on my clean record if I can't go via their insurance

When you say "negligence" do you mean they had let the dog out and wander off? or was he out on a walk with no lead?

I hope it all works out well :)

You are right you shouldn't have a claim on your record through no fault of your own!

The dog owners didn't even know their dog had got out :-/ it was running around in a garden about 20 houses down the road and unfortunately chose to run out across the road as I got level with the garden hedge :-/ So no owners in sight!

It sounds like they do have public liability but whether they'll be able to weasel out of paying up, I just don't know :-/

As messy as it sounds - dog DNA and/or bits of dog on your bumper/car may be an option here then ?

Barking mad you are :)

Lol at least the doggy jokes put a smile on my face and keep me relatively sane during the conversations with the insurance tossers!!!

They've promised me it'll be resolved Monday but I'll believe it when I see it grr!

seems like your getting some 'rufff' justice here.

if you cant get it sorted go to citizens advice!

hope it all works out. :s

LOL keep em coming lads ;-)

Had the insurance on the phone this morning, they're arguing that the quote i've submitted is way too high in terms of labour hours required for the job.... Unfortunately they're just messing me around...... I trust Jay's quote is accurate and i've had numerous other quotes from other bodyshops that are stating the same hours, yet the ''insurance engineers'' are trying to say the job requires 20 hours less than Jay has quoted for. What utter b0llocks......

Someone remind me again why I pay £850 each year for this sh*te service.........

Its been 2 months now and I want my vee back on the road!!!
