Does anyone comment on your Retro Renault?

I was in my local Tesco about 4 months ago, roof down and car gleaming as usual...

A guy about 40 came over to me and said

"Excuse me would you mind if I just had a quick look at your car I really like it"

So I showed him around it and he said he wanted a 19 16v cab when they first came out but he could never afford one. He said he was really into cars and lived local, after about ten minutes of chat he asked if I lived local, I said yeah and he said...

"you might of seen me driving about"

in what I said...

"I have a brand new Porsche GT3"

At first I thought he was joking, then he said next time i see you i'll give you a flash and wave, we shook hands then I carried on with my shopping.

And yep i've seen him a few time now he always waves to me, it gave me quite a buzz to get a bit of appreciation from someone with a very nice car and he was very down to earth. I assumed most super car drivers we up their own arses but not this one.

Here's a pic of what his car is like...

anyone experience anything similar?

I often get remarks on the condition of mine and the missus tells me people stare at it as we go past.I guess it's the fact there aren't many about and it stands out from modern stuff. I get thumbs up and headlight flashes from other older cars too.

I used get a lot of comments on the cabbys, in fact anywhere i went thered be comments or at least looks, theyre very rare over here, there would be comments ranging from the car itself and other folks coming over to me randomly telling me about their retro renault, since ive been stuck driving the clio there is not very many comments apart from ones about the rediculous modifications such as oak laminate flooring, emergency escape hammer and the like

Yeh i get some stares when i drive past & had 1 person come up to me as he got a light blue 19 valver and couldnt believe there was another in the same area  However some comments i get is "whats so good bout a Renault 19", for which i reply "Fcuk u, u wont know til you got one":p

yeah occasionally i get the odd comment from douchebags relating to the renault electric issues myth and other such nonsense from people who have never owned a decent car in their life and who made avail of the free vagina with any hyundai santa fe offer

well I always get lots of looks, people trying to work out what it is The Fuego Turbo. A few older guys smile heaps and wave, probably had one once or something. Had no comments as such yet.

Did have a small chat to some guy when I ran out of fuel the pother day in the Fuego. turned out he had one about 5 years ago, he was about 28, and we both had a complain about the electrics in Fuegos and Renaults in general.

No one notices the 19's, most people think its a corolla or something. but we have heaps of cars the same age here in NZ, so doesn't stand out, and its not a 16v either.

Stopped to fill up this morning and there was a guy putting petrol in his silver Matra Rancho, a car I thought had totally vanished off the face of the earth. It didn't look too bad, but then again the light wasn't that good! And yes,the wing mounted spotlights had been replaced with duck tape :D

This I did not know
The Rancho spawned an unlikely successor: the Renault Espace. Matra wanted to replace the Rancho with their prototype of the Espace known as the “dessin orange”, which translates to “the orange drawing” in English – both the prototype and the background it was drawn on were orange. It predicted the basic shape of the first Espace but only had three doors instead of five. Peugeot (who controlled Matra at the time) deemed the project too expensive and not promising enough. Determined to take its design to production Matra knocked on Renault’s door and they quickly adopted the project, one that upon its launch in 1984 arguably became the first European minivan[3].

jesus the matra rancho, i had almost forgotten about these, what a zany and awesome vehicle

There was one that sat by a house never moving for years out in the country, parked beside it also never moving was a Lada Niva. Rode by ont he bike one day to see them both on a lowloader with the lada being crushed down by the hi-arm onto the rancho, sad end.

Back tot he original post, I usually get funny looks or laughs then I pump them, then they refuse point blank to look over. Had the occasional wave from a girl in a passenger seat in the car I just battered though. Golf turbos and seat ibiza turbos seem to be the ones that go for it the most.

But the only car i have been in where someone came over and said nice car was Steve_101's bosses nedded up Vectra V6. It was awful, the middle aged woman who chatted us both up was in an old corrola which was nice.

Never had anyone complement the 19 until they have been in it and seen the toys and the speed doesn't impress the handling does though as the car doesn't need to slow down much for bends and it doesn't roll.

I got pulled by the police for speeding/racing a nova when I was 17 in my first 19, he loved it, looked all-round it and said he had a pic on his wall of the same model when he was younger
I still got 3 points tho

Just thought of another time when I had my last 19 16v cabriolet when I was 19, I used to cruise round Kirkcaldy Promenade at weekends (Chris H may know where this is?) till 2am when all the clubs finished to see what "jack and danny" was about :D.

My old 19 16v was previously owned by the ICE company "infinity" before I owned it (ex demonstration car) so you can imagine what the sounds were like...

Anyway... roof down, sounds up (probably casper slide tune or something else very tacky ), baseball cap on, stripey jumper etc... you get the picture... crusing round town and a group of middle aged women started shouting "daddies car, daddies car" I'm like WTF no it's my car actually and a lad who was with them said "yeah right mate" so I said "shut up you idiot you could have a car like this if you didn't go pissing it up the wall every weekend" with a big smile on my face (bearing in mind the car was only 9 years old back then and it was a minter.)

He looked at me and went mad then he threw his kebab in the back of my car! :x, chilli sauce everywhere!
