compression and skimming tolerances

G

Guest

Does anyone know the standard compression ratio for these cars and the skimming tolerances for the head as i got a recond head when i bought th car(look brand new) and has had a skim but i dont no wheather it is skimmed 2 much etc. :?

Haynes manual gives the compression at 10.1:1. No idea how much you can skim but the face should be within 0.05mm (again from Haynes).

can ususally stand a couple or three skims a head, so long as they dont take loads off!

what is that in PSI or BAR pressure as thats what my compression gauge reads. im hoping that the reson for all my power loss is a crap head. maybe thats why the guy got a head recond with all new seals etc!i need some measurements from a standard head to compare with the head i have hear as i dnt want to be bending valves. even then if i find out how much its skimmed i need to no if thats ok. arrrrrrrrrrr!!!! :?

you can skim about a mm off, if its skimmed more just alter cam timing to allow less lift @ tdc.

because i dnt want to put it on and get bend valves. what does the original head measure up at?

you'll be fine for a fair few skims.

Theres enough valve/piston clearance on a stock engine so i wouldnt worry about that.

besides, they should only be taking a few thou off each time.

ojk cheers mate. hopefully i can put my power loss down to the valves so i can regain the power it should be making. got a gauge to test it with wich im gana do early sat mornin n hopfully tell me a few things that i can cure.
