hi all

yestrday my engine just stopped after a series of overheating.

if the dealers said that there is no compresion in the engine and it seemed that there is a leakage in the radiator coolant.. what am i looking at ( in damage point of view ) ??

or is it just something that can be easily fixed ??

Sounds expensive.

Headgasget leak? :?

Warped block?

Pure guesswork.

Hope i'm wrong and its simple and cheap to fix. :(

Peter

if we are talking about a leak ..will this be expensive ?? and will it take long ?? ..and will the car be as good as it was ??

If the headgasget goes it can over pressurise the water system leading to leaks and overheating (and loss of compression). I think they can test the water to determin this from traces of combustion by-products.

However if you really overheat a alloy bock it can warp and this can cause sealing issues with the head. Years ago (on a R19 16v) I had to have a block skimmed(sp) for this reason. If its not perfectly flat then it may never seal properly.

Peter

I have to agree with above, if its overheated and you've lost compression you have almost certainly warped the head or something resulting in a head gasket failure, especially as you say you are losing coolant. There are lots of signs differing for all cars depending on the galleries for oil and water but if the gasket has failed to the coolant side you can put an exhaust probe in the header tank and it'll sniff out any illegal immigrants from the combustion side! also if your losin coolant the car is likely to produce a lot of white 'smoke' from the exhaust.
Whatever happens as long as its not the piston side of things which would be unlikely if the coolant problem isn't just a coincidence, at least though expensive the repair is not that big a deal and the car will be as good as before and mebbe running a slightly higher compression if the heads need skimming.
Hope this waffle helps.. arf, best o luck.

thanks alot guys i am still waiting for the dealer to tell me exactly whats wrong hopefully i will know what wrong tomorrow , the thing is Mike T i am not in england , i am too far away. and it is still under warranty.
will keep you posted as soon as something comes up.

a quick question does
the engine need to be removed to check it for such problems ???
i just got off the dealers , he told me that he will get the engine out and check it ,, is this right ??

Depends what is the cause.

They can check for gaskets or water leaks etc without removing the engine.

Then the head gaskets is the cause should be able to replace without removal.

If pistons, liners etc I believe engine out job.

Although it might be easier engine out from the beginning due to very restricted space.

What you have said above does not make sense to me.

Have had a look again, if it is head gasket and head gasket requires renewing it will be far easier to remove engine.

The garage said no compression on all cylinders i believe, have you the readings ?

If that is so would not believe gaskets would be the problem.

If it is on one or two cylinders then might be. The garage should be able to then carry out a water side test to confirm one way or other.

Can you drive the car and does it start ?

Any sign of water leaks or have you topped it up ?

Have sent you file regarding engine.

from this you will see about removal of engine.

See questions above regarding compression, are all cylinders with 0 pressure or one.

You will require Adobe Reader.

E mail bounced assume file too big for Hot Mail.

well i went to the dealers and say my engine
( tried to post the pictures but had a problem, hopefully it will be done today), anyways..is it true that if any major problem happens to your clioV6 the dealer has to report to renault france ?? cuz this may cause a large delay for my Clio !! :'( ..
