so what are these Bosch items mentioned in the first post?

Unsure tbh. I'd guess that the person I was speaking to at UK Customer Care made an error?

Renault do not manufacture the coils, from the first post I would assume that Bosch manufacture coils for Renault. They will not sell them to us only Renault.

Hi

I'm about to buy a V6 MK1 from a garage that also paid for a dealer inspection of the car before I buy. The car just had the check with the dealer that showed the ignition coils had caused a misfire across 1,3,4,5,6 cylinders when they plugged into the engine diagnostics system! The dealer advised that the coils will go at some point soon and will need replacement which at the moment the garage where i am buying the car from have agreed to pay for their replacement.

However I am interested in seeing if the dealer will actually change them instead after reading this post. One slight hitch is that I am buying the car in Hong Kong where I live now after moving here last year! Tom - do you have any contact details for Renault in UK that you spoke to so that I can ask the Hong Kong dealer to contact them and verify Renault's view on policy on exchanging the ignition coils from the bad batch free of charge?

On another note the car has done just 12klms (7.5k mls) so I'm guessing its an age related problem than mileage! Its in good condition needing odds and ends e.g. power steering hose leak, and will need the dreaded cambelt changing at some point as the car is now 6 years old even if the mileage is low. Fortunately I have found a good specialist here - which is lucky as there are only 12 of these cars in HK - and because Renault are not popular here I am getting the car very cheap compared to UK prices!

Thanks for your help and wanted to say excellent forum site!

Renault probaly use two or three manufacturers to produce parts, Bosch & Sagem and may be others for coils.

Has any one got Bosch coils then.

I haven't a clue who manufactured mine.

If your out of warranty just replace them with the trophy coils - Scott can get them and I'm sure he can fit them!

I've never had a problem since changing

I forked out £200 and that was doscounted to have coil no 4 replaced (manifiold off)

If I thought for a second that Renault would have covered that cost then I would have kicked up, but I really very much doubt it.

Jeezz, the 2nd one went on mine on sat, it was under the manifold... Took about 45mins to change it and that was including removing all the engine covers. Shows how much they charge as an hourly rate [smilie=badpc.gif]

Just for the record all my coils are sagem.

IMO someone should knock up a standard letter for coil failures that people could download, edit as necessary with number of miles v's number of failures and we could all send them into reno UK see what happens?

You know like the websites do for claiming back your bank charges?

Mine are all Sagem coils and the new ones still are aswell athough the dealer said the part number had been superseeded.

I would say its the Sagem ones which are the faulty batch as Peugeot had a faulty batch on 106 and 306s and they were all the Sagem ones!

That is scandalous......the coil issue is outrageous... [smilie=evil.gif]

(crossing everything when she says it......) I haven't had one go on me yet, although I do now carry a spare coil...

..proper Chongo-Pants this issue....:(

I called the AA out to change one today, the guys diagnostic pooter said Cylinder 4 had failed -but he didn't know which was cylinder 4! -so we tried disconnecting each coil to find any changes in engine tones but in the end found it easier to use the sniff test -when the coil goes it tends to smell like a toy cap gun thats just been fired. I too had a spare which i had bought from Peugeot for £23. Glad i was carrying it otherwise its 20 miles to the stealer.

Incidentally, if i want a replacement coil under warranty, the garage said i will have to book her in, they will then put the knackered coil back in, register a failed cylinder, then replace it -crazy!

Right, after my second coil went last week i got on the blower to Renault UK to find out whether they would agree to change all six coils. I explained that the car is my daily drive, and that i have lost confidence in it. They sympathised but told me the official line from France is that only failed parts can be replaced.

I was also told that the number of reported faults did not warrant a change in stance by Renault, so i reckon that more of us owners should take five minutes to register a complaint in the future. I was then advised that i should consider buying an uprated coil pack (this suggests to me that they don't think the existing parts are up to scratch!).

Anyway, i bought another replacement coil from Peugeot yesterday, fingers crossed i won't need it for some time.
