coilovers

I've got my mate david coming over tomorrow as he wanted me to fit his coilovers for him. I've had a look at what he's bought and tbh I'm not sure if they're ok to use or not.

I was expecting new struts and all that but all he got was top mounts, springs and some metal guides. apparently they need to be put on the original strut and are then used in the same fassion as a lowering spring.

the fella he bought them off said they were on his car for a week...(alarm bells ring here) and he had no problems. somehow i think that's tosh and that he had them on and found they created problems. rather than wasting my day looking at this for him then finding they aren't going to work I thought I'd ask and save my self some time.

The cars an old Toyota Celica btw so not renault but the people in the know can answer this without it having to be anyway.

you get the existing strut stripped won, then cut off the spring platform clean up the strut tube then fit the metal guides which I assume are threaded sleeves, these need to be welded to the strut

not a job I'm going to be able to do for him then. the threaded sleeves have never seen a weld in their life so feck knows how they were done before.

cheers Chris, I thought you'd know the answer.

sounds about right which may also be why the guy only had them on his car for a short while.
