You can try disconnecting each coil and listen for a change in engine note (if it sounds worse THAT coil is okay, if no difference then you've found the duffer). Also, i found the dead one smelt like a toy cap gun.

Peugeot use the same coils in some of their V6 engines and they retail at about £27.00 inc VAT. They also seem to keep more stock than renault. You'll probably need an 8mm socket set.

If it is one of the three closest to the front of the car its pretty simple. If it is 1 of the 3 nearest the boot its alot more time consuming.

Phone Peugeot and ask for part number 597077
Cost £20.67 +VAT Sagem part number 2526140A BINGO!!!!

I've just had one fail and replaced with rug part at virtually 1/2 cost !!!!!

Details above for part from Peugeot.

If yours is a MK1 you might have some difficulty gaining access to the coils on the front side of the engine, i think the inlet manifold is in the way.

Loads more info in the Coils Sticky i think.

Just spoke to pug, apparently the New Part Number is 597094.

Just ordered mine so i'll try it out soon as possible :)

I'm lucky enough not to have any gone yet, but I'm gonna be driving about 800 miles in September so I want to prepare in case!

I've got my instruction manual to replace them all printed out! (thanks for the tips by the way everyone!)

Just need to buy the tool to fit them.
