Hi all

Just picked up my Mk2 last week do all you owners find the cluch bites quite high .

And if it is slipping is this easy to tell ?

Thanks

Vito

Yes ... mine bites quite high and has since it was brand new. I think it's got an automatic adjuster too ... so the bite point remains reasonably constant as the clutch wears.

With the grunt of the Vee, I reckon you'd know if it was slipping. Stick it in a high gear eg. 6th at 25mph, and then floor it. Only time mine has ever slipped has been when I've been doing silly things and smoked it .

My cluch feels like it bites very high just before I take my foot off it if this normal I have on prob but if not I want it changed. Do the Clio V6s have adjustable peddle boxes might help. As far as I can tell it is not slipping but you know what it is like when you get a new TOY you want everything to be perfect. I did what you said 25mph 6th and floored it . It was pulling but very slow .

And the only reason I ask all this is because as you say I was doing silly things at a set of lights in the dry went for the take off and no wheel spin or much go but lots of revs thats when I thought f**k thats the cluch gone.

Am I right in saying that if the wheels dont spin and you dont get it right the cluch takes the pain and there fore slips or would it not stall?

Sorry about this coming from a car with SMG and now driving a car that is very different to drive than most things with so much weight over the back

When you gonna post pics of your new VEE?
Alex

Hi I will get them up soon just not had the car nice and clean and camera to hand at the same time .

Sorry but V6Clio.net will be first to see :approve:

If you hammer it off the line and the revs rise without wheelspin or rapid acceleration then your slipping the clutch. Easy to do as there is so much grip and torque.

All that does is wear and heat the clutch. When it cools back down it should still be OK but will have less life left in it. No idea how many thousand miles a full bore start wears off, but it must be a fair bit.

OR If your unlucky (and brutal) on one start you smash the clutch to little bits like I did! Expensive mistake to be avoided trust me!

Thanks all

I had a friend drive it and he said its fine also my other friend in Edinburgh has a MK2 in Mars red also he drove it to and said its just like his and his car has only done about 3000 miles .

I also find the clutch bite point quite high but accept that this is normal ...

I tried a spirited start a couple of times and found that it was not a good idea to try to feather in too much power whilst taking up the clutch. It just slipped and stunk for ages. I am sure I could work out the optimum synchronisation but this experience made me think it is not worth the risk of wearing the clutch out too much for the benefits I get day to day. And I won't do drag starts.

I don't bother with anything aggresive off the line now as I can sense the clutch is not really up to the job - as many have said before.

My father taught me a lot of vehicle sympathy stuff (as he is an 'old school' HGV driver) and so I tend to use clutches in cars very conservatively (unless it's a paddle clutch) and try to never slip them or ride them etc.

the smell of burning clutch in the cabin is somthing we've all experienced im sure. What a horrible experience it is aswell, i learned my lesson.
