my car seems very clonky at rear though gearbox. sounds like gear chatter when coming off or on gas pedal is this normal????

any gear .will do it when changing gear or go just going on of thortle.like back lash in g box .do these cars have duel mass flywheels?

my gear box also clonks and whines , forgive my stupidity but what is a dual mass fly wheel and why is it noisey

My mark 1 does it, the box is whiney especially if you lift off the gas. Clonks are best checked in case its the mountings or something. Diff whine when cornering is typical too as these are pretty wound up.
Bear in mind the flimsy material between you and the powertrain compared to a conventional front engined car with a bulkhead etc. You will here all manner of zings and whistles, just listen out for any new ones thats all.....

been to dealer today and they say my noise is normal .does any one live near daventry (northants) so i could come to you and have a ride in your car to see if my noise is normal .pls its doing my head in .cheers tim

I live near to oxford if this is any help mate?

Mine has had a replacement gearbox due to the diff breaking after 5K, have since put 18k on it and it is still clonky.

You learn to get used to it in the end.
