Clio v6 255
This 2005 Renaultsport Clio V6 Phase 2 is a wonderful example of the marque’s inimitable mid-engined hot hatch, the car has been well cared-for by me and it’s previous owner for 17 years. Doing away with the traditional front-engine, front-wheel drive layout usually associated with performance hatchbacks, the car instead has a riotous 3.0-litre V6 engine in the place of the rear seats, which drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
As a Phase 2 version, this Clio V6 produces 252bhp – a notable upgrade over the Phase 1 car – and also features a longer wheelbase and wider track, improving both its handling characteristics and usability. Assembled by Renaultsport at its Dieppe facility, this Clio V6 is one of 191 Phase 2 UK cars to be finished in Illiad Blue and number 211 of only 354 cars produced for the UK market, as displayed on its special edition badge behind the gear lever.
First registered in 2004, the clear HPI report shows two previous registered keepers on the log book, and the odometer indicates 58,000 miles – making this a relatively low mileage example.
The dramatic wide bodywork and eye-catching paintwork are in exceptional overall condition, with the only marks being some very small stone chips on the front bumper and light scratches. It rides on its original 18-inch OZ alloy wheels, which are all absolutely pristine.
In the cabin, things are slightly more subdued when compared to the boisterous exterior, but there are still enough signature touches to remind the driver that this is no ordinary Clio. Clad in black suede and leather, the sports seats are in excellent condition, with only mild marks and creasing to the driver’s seat bolster, in line with the age and mileage. The V6’s original body-coloured interior trim is unmarked. Along with a freshly re-trimmed steering wheel.
Somewhat in contrast to the Renaultsport Clio V6’s hardcore reputation, Phase 2 cars such as this have a number of comfort and convenience features, including climate control, cruise control and automatic xenon headlights. They were also fitted with a six-disc CD changer, linked to six speakers via the Cabasse stereo system, all of which is still present and correct in this example.
It was last serviced by Renault specialist, Rentec in May 2022, where it received a full belt change including, cam belt, aux belt and water pump. Along with an oil change, new oil filter, pollen filter and wheel alignment. In February of this year the car had a new fuel pump, fuel filter and new battery.
The last MOT test was carried out at the start of the year, with the car receiving a clean pass with no advisories after a new windscreen was fitted due to a crack.
Durning the hot weather I noticed the A/C wasn’t working that great so i’ve had that re-gassed, iced cold now.
The car is standard apart from the air filter and exhaust. The BMC filter which was changed 17 years ago by the previous owner was cleaned 2000 miles ago and produces a fantastic induction noise. A Quicksilver exhaust has been recently fitted, it’s loud but that’s want I wanted as I only do a few hundred miles a year and wanted the v6 noise in my ears! the cold start is amazing! I’ve still got the original exhaust and had it vapour blasted to bring it back to life if fitted back onto the car. While the car was in the garage getting the exhaust fitted I had the brakes fully stripped, rebuild and painted. The aerial gasket has also been changed as this is a common problem on the v6.
Accompanying the car are its original leather document pouch, including maintenance service booklet, warranty and services booklets, owner’s manual, radio instructions and security code, plus its original Renault security system booklet. Plus a raft of documents covering the car’s history, including past MOT certificates, service invoices and receipts.
