Clio Clio 197

New Member
Hi all,

New to the forum here and recently been thinking about a Meg engine conversion so this would be the best place for some info :).

Car is a 197 as you can tell!
Had most of the criteria I was after when buying it, spoiler, recaros and exhaust tips. Missed out on the headlights but sure. Had been unmodified too which was good.

First few pictures are the night I got it, a year ago next month.

One of the first things I done was fitted 20mm hub centric spacers all round. Pictures don't show them too well but below are the before and after pictures

Decided that I wanted the Renaultsport front splitter, not to everyone's taste but I thing it goes well with the cup spoiler

image.webp

This was our Renaultsport owners club NI meet but sadly we didn't get the best of weather, typical NI!

image.webp

So these two pictures were just after fitting the H&R lowering springs 30&40mm

image.webp

Finally decided on the ITG maxogen kit, expensive yes, it does sound good and hopefully has provided slight gains

image.webp

The day the Maxogen was fitted and the K-Tec two piece drilled front discs too but you can't really see them in the picture.

Nice shiny manifold to replace the old blowing one

image.webp

Replaced the upper torque arm bush with powerflex bushes as well as inserting the upper engine mount powerflex bush at the time of fitting the toyosports manifold.

Lower gearbox powerflex bush
image.webp Was very tempted by this R26 but sadly couldn't get the insurance.
image.webp
Also got the anthracite wheels instead of the silver ones which I think look far better

image.webp

This is the most recent picture, just had a milltek cat back fitted.

image.webp Any ideas of improvements are welcome!!

So overall summary of the mods I've done is:
Anthracite wheels
Toyosports manifold
Milltek catback
Powerflex bushes, upper torque arm, lower gearbox and upper engine mount
20mm hubcentric spacers all round
H&R 30/40mm lowering springs
ITG maxogen
K-Tec drilled two piece front discs and brembo pads
LED interior lighting
Kenwood headunit
Heko wind deflectors
Silvervision front indicator bulbs
Osram Nightbreaker bulbs for the white effect
RS front splitter
Smoked front fogs
Metro number plates
Black Renault diamonds

Hopefully a 230 engine to be added to this list at some stage too!!

Thanks for looking

Cheers mate! I agree! Love the look of the 197. Just wish I had the 200 rear diffuser maybe. Megane engine would provide massive gains and completely transform the car. Lots of work but sure! Need to get the door handles painted though since they're worn looking so thinking of matching them with the wheels

Great thread Luke, and your car looks great!

I soooo like those Clio 197/200's but still feel a bit put off by the lack of turbo so know where you're coming from wanting to fit a 230 lump ;)

Thanks Steve!

I know where your coming from! I would like the power of the megane but the looks of the Clio. The lack of turbo leaves you a bit limited when it comes to power upgrades. Little gains, big costs haha

Very true, but they will also require a lot more cash too if you can actually find one as Steve says! I've just found a full 230 for sale in NI at just under £2800 in working condition, recaros etc. Potential to be broken and make most of the money back plus get an engine

Welcome mate - cracking thread and car looks awesome!

Getting the turbo in there makes these things supercar slayers, look forward to the progress

I think the 250 one would be a tad expensive. Thanks for the offer though mate! I haven't seen anyone do that conversion yet. Cheers Papps the amount of people it would surprise/embarrass would be brilliant haha

The 250 engine brand new on a crate isn't too bad. Was around £1500 last time I checked.

There is one 250 engine conversion on here. Chap called Wilson owns it

At £1500 for a lump i'd be sorely tempted. When you weigh up the cost of an engine and rebuilding it to equivalent standard, bearing in mind time and effort, I think i'd just write the cheque lol
