Clio Clio 182 Trophy New Daily/Project...

Yeah, did sting a little to be honest however diagnostics and oil pump replacement all in was £650 and they dropped the subframe as part of that whilst having issues with subframe to chassis securing fixings. Clutch replacement is over a grand on its own so with getting new oil pump fitted, new clutch kit, gearbox oil, O/S output shaft seal and gearbox oil replaced with interim service for £1200 all in thats not too bad after all.

Now got an oil pump as a soulvenir lol.

Yeah, my mate used to work at Holden Renault Norwich however he left 6 months before this all happened, typical... bet they dont see many Trophies, besides they know me in there as I work just down the road for a Volkswagen Main Dealer ;-).

Small update...

October/November...with winter getting close and about 2mm if that left on the front tyres (Toyo Proxes T1R'S) it was time to invest in a new pair of tyres. The Toyo's had managed around 9000 miles, only half of that in my ownership, so decided to go with a pair of these:

Also for good measure replaced the front wipers for some decent Bosch items, replaced the ITG panel filter (as its due a good clean) with a genuine Renault air filter and pollen filter.

December...took the Trophy to Power & Performance in Honingham to give the Milltek Cat Back exhaust some much needed attention. This was fitted in 2009 by a previous owner and wasnt sitting quite where it should be. It was removed to be re-hung with mounting brackets adjusted, small weld repair done where it had just started to blow and new bolts/springs/washers fitted. Sits alot better in the rear bumper now and should be good for many more years to come.

Time for an update on the Trophy after a quiet few months, however been collecting a few bits ready to get some more jobs done. Bought another pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres on Black Circles when they came up at a good price, the existing Falken rear tyres were starting to crack and get abit low so I decided to put them on the front. Well, they didnt last long on the front, about a day to be fair as the car felt far less assured so they went back on the rear as they were shite compared to the Michelins!.

I had also noticed N/S/F caliper was binding very slightly so stripped and free'd off the sliders, then a couple of months later I found the car was not braking as well as it did and grinding to a halt on slight slopes too quickly for my liking so took a look. The lower slider was completely seized so that would explain the issue, the top one moving ok, bit annoying considering I had both original front calipers replaced with a pair of second hand ones in December and now these were sticking. Replaced O/S/F slider with one of the originals as a short term fix, then I was on the look out for some new/fully re-furbished front calipers & sliders rather then messing around with second hand units, so I sourced these from ebay:

Fully re-furbished front calipers, brand new sliders both side and re-furbished N/S/R caliper as bleed nipple had snapped off and O/S/R was replaced by previous owner just before I bought the car. I had to send back the N/S/R caliper in the picture as the handbrake lever was a slightly different type to the original, and wanted it all sorted once and for all. All brake pads also replaced with some decent OE spec Ferodo pads for now, was tempted by DS25000 however decided against them to keep it standard.

Couldnt resist abit of red paint to brighten them up a little!

New calipers and pads all fitted in May and nicely bedded in, everything looking fine when new calipers fitted, all discs where replaced 12,000 miles ago so still plenty of life left in them. In early June noticed N/S/F was beginning to get abit 'clonky' over bumps in the road and handling nowhere near how it did on the way to work, so took a look to be greeted with this, what every Trophy owner dreads...
Sach leak1.webp Sachs3.webpLast re-built in October 2012 on around 59,000 miles, now on 77,874 so not even managed 20,000 since, time to fit some brand new Cup shocks for now until finances allow for a Sach's rebuild at BG Motorsport. Can be £400-£1000 for a rebuild depending upon whats required, could do with a powder coat anyway lol
Sach's removed:

Sach's now waiting to be sent off to be rebuilt, looking like next year realistically :-(

Well, last time it was £529 as the invoice states when someone else paid, for seals and unpinning (making them adjustable). Think the new cup shocks were a bargain at £83.00 delivered! lol. I will speak to BG and see roughly what sort of costs they are looking at, could do with a re-powder coat to freshen them up, just hope both shafts dont need replacing as if they do the bill will be a grand! :-(

Overdue update... had all 4 Speedline Turini's re-furbished back in late June, whilst these were being done the Trophy was rocking these rims which no doubt have been seen before, they dont really suit it! lol DSCF1253.webp Meaning the raider was back on its old wheels once again

August...had issues with the air con not working suspecting a re-gas was required, so got it into work to take a look in July last year to find no gas and that condenser seals were leaking. When going to replace the seals with new ones from Renault, the bolt on the dryer sheared off meaning i would need to replace that too. As the condenser itself was also looking tired, and not happy with the second hand breakers yard one I sourced, decided to bite the bullet and go for a brand new Valeo one.

MOT 17th September 2016 passed with no issues other than just creeping within the limits on emissions test, suspect lambda sensor needs replacing as Trophy has now done 80,934 miles, will get this sorted soon...

Service done 23rd September 2016, as I work next door to Holden Renault Norwich and have been short of time lately got a cheeky deal on the service at 81,117 miles. Advised N/S/R brake pipe starting to corrode so will get this addressed in the near future having replaced the O/S/R last year.

November, replaced pre-cat lambda sensor with a Bosch unit from North West Performance, now passes the emissions test with flying colours.

Thanks guys, yeah its doing alight for an 11 year old French car in red considering I have only washed it and never got round to de-contaminating/cleaning/polishing it properly! Looking to get it machine polished/mopped and polished/waxed this year, get some swirl marks and minor scratches taken out and properly protected as been keeping on top of the other side of things lately as its the daily drive.

Still havent got the Sach's done since the N/S started to leak in June, bought new shock top mount kit and looking to collect other suspension items to replace existing for when the Sach's do get re-built and go back on. Just dont fancy buying everthing at the same time as the re-build, - ouch!

Well overdue update time on the Trophy... been in daily service with very minimal issues to be fair, have done a few bits done in the last 12 months to keep on top of things, had a very quiet 6 months:

1st July 2017 I did notice a slight rattle from the auxiliary belt area of the engine. This was coming from the water pump which was the original and has never been replaced, it was also showing early signs of leaking, auxiliary belt and tensioner also due for replacement as last done by DTM Performance in October 2013 at 62,000 miles.
So today the following were replaced: water pump with new genuine Renault (7701 473 365), coolant topped up with Renault Type D, auxiliary belt & tensioner kit (7701 477 519) and also N/S/R brake pipe (8200 113 855) at 88,306 miles. Engine now much quieter with no rattle, cam belt was done in October 2013 by DTM Performance at 62,000 so that will be done next year in October 2018.

24th Aug 2017 Reached the milestone of 90,000 miles this morning on the way to work, not bad for a car that will be 12 years old at the end of next month, also meaning mot and service looming.

2nd Sept 2017 Mot time again this morning and passed with no advisories at 90,236 miles.

11th Sept 2017 Service done today at Holden Renault Norwich, interim done so then I replaced air filter with genuine (8200 459 852) and cabin/pollen filter with Renault Motrio (8671 012 063) to keep everything upto date at 90,635 miles, advising both front lower ball joints are on their way out so will address those shortly. Handy working next door to Renault and having a couple of contacts there :grin.gif:.

30th Sept 2017 Both front lower ball joints replaced with decent Lemforder items from Euro car parts.

19th Dec 2017 Little issue with engine mis firing just as it was nearly warm, sounds like a Subaru engine management light flashing and loss of power. Managed to get it home and plug it in, cylinder 3 mis fire. Then swapped and cleaned spark plugs 2 and 3 cleared code and plugged in again, intermittent random mis fire so must be coil pack. Replaced coil pack last night with new from GSF and now runs fine with no mis fire, 92,688 miles.

Still got the front Sach's to get re-furbished, new genuine rear Sach's also to fit. The plan is to replace/freshen up the suspension with new genuine front wish bones (new bushes), anti roll bar bushes, track rod ends etc, fit new tops mount kits to re-built front Sach's (when done) and fit new rear Sach's next year. :ag:
