Clear engine cover prob

Why use the perspex lid with the top cover in place? Perhaps switch to normal one if your going to be using the top cover.

I've done over 500mls now and no big issues - although I dont run with the top cover on.

your not alone, mines completely melted...Well it's bowed in the middle and touching the Plenum. So it's all scuffed. Shame as it looked great! Will be coming off for the std one soon.

FTR mine is still fine and i run with a top cover on too! Have done from day 1.

Will keep an eye on it tho. [smilie=doubt.gif]

Im sure simon went the extra mile to get a more heat resistant panel. He's been driving all over with his and with no issues what so ever.

when i met him friday he said he drove it to nurburgring.
his cover looks goooood

Recently purchased a thicker sheet of polycarb and made another, took about an hour and can say its seems a lot sturdier :thumb

Polycarbonate & acrylic are both thermoplastics, ie their shape can be manipulated with heat, polycarbonate should start to distort in the region of 130 degrees, acrylic is usually slightly lower. An ideal cover would be a decent clear thermoset plastic, something like Polyetherketone (peek) which has a high tollerance to heat, it's strong and extremely durable. Problem is finding a clear source that won't break the bank as it's notorious for it's price.

Had this problem myself, the perspex has sagged and has blackened where it touched the plenum cover. I was hoping to be able to keep the perspex cover in place with the top cover on to reduce noise (when i don't feel like showing the engine off) but i guess that was the mistake. The cover was never a top notch fit anyway as the the aperture it sits on is not uniform. I have switched back to the original cover but may look into getting another clear one made from different material one day. Shame really because it did look good for a month or so. :(

I might as well ask this odd question.

Could you have a piece of oven door glass cut and fitted. Will it crack going over the first bump?
