Clear engine cover development thread

Peter255

Active Member
After the sprawling mess of the last thread, this is a new thread to cover the development / investigations into a clear engine cover.

Initially we will be following up on some development work carried out by an ex forum user with "plastics4performance.co.uk". If this fails then alternate avenues will be investigated. There has been significant interest in this development and as such it richly deserves further work.

Please do not post comments / queries in this thread. If you do they will be removed. I am not trying to stifle dicsussion I am merely trying to keep this thread manageable and useful for the development.

Comments / Discussions etc can go in the other discussion thread!

The following has shown some interest in the development. This is not a firm yes/no etc just a quick list for referance.

A few emails have been sent to [email protected] by Monkey & emma777.

Monkey / Emma have you heard anything back?

If not I will chase them up. We need to confirm the supplier is still intersted in moving this forward.

Cheers

I think you can scratch "Big Peaches" and "AcidV6" since they are no longer owners.
Peter, can you clarify whether the existing engine cover is the same for the Mk I as the Mk II?
ClarkieV6 said that my Mk II cover felt significantly lighter than his MK I cover...

As noted that was just a quick list, but its now edited! :approve:

In answer to your question the outer covers are different. Mossy has a set of mk1 covers he has modified to give a window. They are not directly interchangeable. The top cover has a different apeture.

Not sure on the inners, but logic would state they would be different also ( so the holes line up).

I'm happy to give them a call. I don't think email is the way to go for contacting them (no offence!).

What information was emailed to them?

Cheers,
Phil. :)

Just my input on things.

Mk1 and Mk2 inners and outers are unfortunately different, the Mk2 top and bottom centre sections are wider and thus the side's are different sizes too.

I did use mk1 top covers mated to mk2 bottom covers but had to chop a lot of the edges away from the mk1 top 2 side covers in order to be able to remove the bottom mk2 centre section.

Some piccies from the original thread:

I therefore had to modify the Mk1 side by cutting away material to allow enough room to remove
the Mk2 bottom engine cover.

I agree re-ringing people. The personal touch!

However it is normal for me to initially email and follow up with a call.

As soon as we get feedback from Emma777 and Monkey i'll drop them a line.

The latest response I had was the following (dated 19 June 08), unfortunately I have neglected to chase this up in the interim....

Hi Charlie

Yea we still have everything here, I think we were almost ready to make the first moulding if i remember correctly, I will dig everything out tomorrow and see where we were up to

Cheers
