Just thought I'd post this up here. As you may know I'm a big fan of dipping the blocks in caustic soda, to clean them up. However, although it gets rid of grease, it doesn't get rid of rust. So I thought I'd try dipping in acid. A place local to me charges £90 to caustic clean and acid dip a block, so I figured it'd be cheaper if I did it myself.
So after the obligatory jet wash, caustic dip, jet wash, caustic dip, I was left with this....

That paint isn't coming off at all!
So I thought I'd try some acid...
The tub I use is about 43 litres, but you have to take off the volume of the block- I should really work it out properly lol. So I filled with water and added this stuff..

91% sulphuric acid drain cleaner. It worked well on my outside drain!
The block started bubbling away after a few mins. I left it in for 1 hrs and noticed some rust still present. So left it for another hour...then took it out.

Rust nearly gone, but it was getting dark, so I left it out of the acid overnight, gave it a quicker wire wheel clean and another jetwash. Was greeted by this in the morning..
So it's in the acid again for another hour today.
