21 Turbo Central locking solution.

Hi,

Since I bought my 21T a few years ago, the central locking was playing up. Real bad, one or two doors locked some times and other times not.

I couldn't find substitutes or new ones so I started a repair trip. I managed to get all 4 back in working order, all doors locks with the key, the remote, and the switch on the dash.

Do you guys have a solution for this issue or do you want me to explain it here on the forum. I'm asking because there might be a fix going around.

Regards. Renoholic.

Sh!t. I made a fool of myself...again. I Googled the actuators by brand and model number and found nothing. Now I did it under actuators and there are bags full.

Anyhow, I cut them open with a Dremel, and inside is a little 12v motor. Similar to a slotcar motor. I found that this motor is only running on 2 segments of the commutator, call it 2 cylinders of the 3 available. So it is feeble. It can't drive the lock. This little motor drives a shaft with a worm gear and it is the worm gear driving the lock up and down. Because the motor always stops at the same position the same commutator segment starts every time and with the inrush current on the static motor it draws max current and the same segment arcs. eventually, the arcing builds up and the motor cannot start, or if it does, it only runs on 2 segments.

I made a little puller to pull the pinion off and the armature out of the casing. Then put the armature in my drill and with fine grit, 800 or 1000, I clean the commutator and assemble it again. Superglue the 2 halves together and all done.

There you have it, although that is the hard way. I did order 2 spare actuators for future use.
