Car wouldn't start...3 beeps?!!!

I'm sure I've read a similar story on here but here's what happened to me this afternoon.

Drive to town and park up on a meter, passenger side nearest the kerb. Trip computer saying 40 miles left before needing fuel, fuel light NOT lit up. Walk away happy as larry.

I return to the car 2 hours later, press the key fob and hear approx 3 beeps I've never heard as it unlocks. Inspect the car in case it's the alarm trying to tell me something but everything looks fine. I try to start the car, the engine starts but dies immediately. Try again a few times, also pressing the accelerator but nothing. Everytime I try, the car starts then dies 1 second later.

So I call the old man to come and have a look, tell him to bring the tow rope etc. As I'm waiting I notice the car is parked on a v.slight camber, when my dad arrives we push the car into the middle of the road where it is "flatter", try starting whilst rev'ing and it starts and I drive home fine.... :s

Is my problem due to the fuel tank being an odd shape/parked on camber? And what were the three beeps? I hope it's nothing too sinister.....

Without the forum I wouldn't of known to push the car to a flatter area so thanks to whoever has written about this problem before. :approve:

3 beeps means the alarm has been going off. I imagine it had immobilised itself or something. The alarm isn't the best thing ever... Or you were getting the 'warm start thing' that Mk1s suffer from and no one seems to know how to fix hehe :)

i had the same thing happen to me except for the 3 beeps on the alarm. the fuel in the tank was obviously not being picked up by the tank. even tho it was telling me i had the same amount of fuel.
