If you go on the above link, you can gain handy information on any UK registered car of free. It will tell you how many former keepers, previous registrations and a timeline of the cars life last 4 digits of VIN. In addition, If its been MOT'd recently, it gives you a valuation of the car. Some of the valuations seem pretty spot on, so I assume they must use for sale adverts and glasses guide or similar. very handy if your looking at buying a used car.

I thought the valuation part of it may spark some banter to those who dare to enter their own reg!

I was just looking up black phase 2 on about 20k miles LY05EHW - gave a valuation of a whopping £47200!!

you may need to sign up to get full details on a car, but it only take 10 seconds and they don't spam you.

That is quite a valuation!

Seems like one could get quite a comprehensive report should one wishes to pay for the privilege - not a bad thing if one is looking to buy a vehicle.

Thanks for that link Duncan, it appears to be a worthwhile site

My car with around 44000 miles was valued at £42700 so a little optimistic I reckon but the information that was easily available about the car, was interesting

It shows my car has two other UK registrations that I didn't know. One of the registration change date is definitely wrong because I have MOT and receipts showing a different registration.

The estimated milage is off by 26,000 miles and valued only at a lowly sum of £18,600.

I feel poor all a sudden :(

Yes, some of the mileage estimates are way off. Generally more so if the car has been exported. It adds an average amount of each year since the last MOT. Some cars, it doesn't pick up the MOT's either.

I can't figure out the rogue old number plates it sometimes throws up, I can only assume that the plate it's self was once associated with another car?

This is the reply I have from UK Vehicle Ltd :-

Hi Ed,

The vehicle that is registered on 3490 ED is a Renault. Is this correct?

The number plate data comes direct from the DVLA which shows on their system that another number plate was registered against this car at sometime. However it is registered under 3490 ED now.

Is there anything else on the report which is incorrect?

Kind regards

Charlie

As far as I am aware my vee was registered from new with 3490 ED and would never have had another plate, I think possibly the other number was a Ford Escort RS that I'd previously had 3490 ED on ?
Will look into it further.

"At an estimated 309,000 miles, this car has done an average number of miles for it's age. "

It's done 46,000 :) LMAO!

The number they have as being transferred to my vee is indeed the original number, prior to my personal plate, of a Vauxhall VX220 I used to own !!??
