Car collection dilemma! A310 on the horizon?

You forgot the part about the theft :dr:UK wide Internet trackdown :cl:and thankful recapture!! :cj:

Oh yes they are hard to steal I mean sell also

...I hope that makes interesting reading. Oh by the way, I asked my daughter which car I should sell. Bearing in mind she is 10, this was her reply: "You can't sell any of them, Daddy, we love them all! They are so different and each one has so many memories associated with it!"

Andrew

Blackmail from the kids....I get that too. My son's favourite is the orange volvo for some reason. probably due to the comfy seats & working CD player (the height of luxury in his opinion)

Oops. Weight distribution of the 610 is 43/57, not 43/75 - the latter adds up to a lot more than 100%!

My son's favourite is the Alpine, followed by the EBS. I took both kids out in the Gordini last night for the first time in three years. For both kids, especially my six year old son, that's a significant gap!

As for theft, I was mighty surprised and shocked that your car was stolen. I am experimenting with a Vodafone Motoxone tracking device at the moment. I can't say it's going swimmingly yet as it seems to be a very early version of the device but it's cheap and the subscription is cheap.

It's designed for tracking mopeds and scooters so is really small and is self-contained with its own battery and also a plug in additional battery, so you can leave it in the car and just charge the additional battery overnight and reattach it next day. Battery life is around a week, so it shouldn't take much power from the car battery if wired in permanently (I intend to do this).

It costs £25 plus £2/month subscription. Unfortunately the app is bad (it crashes nearly every time I open it) and so far Vodafone have had to reset my device more than once in order to get it to receive a GPS signal. I also want them to add the ability to track multiple devices to the app.

They even do one for modern cars, where you plug it in to your OBD socket and it sends you the diagnostic codes!

Anyway, huge digression but I will post more later on the Motoxone as I get more experience with it.

Interesting reading Andy thanks for that, so the 610 is single turbo right? Driven off the exhaust off one bank?
Sounds awesome, looks great could be my next dream car instead of the 5 turbo 2.
There is a 5t2 for sale here (in Oz) which they imported from Japan to flip and make some cash I'm guessing. It was advertised in a couple of mags here but I saw it on the car and classics website I think in the U.K. Listed for 50+G quid. So with a bit of exchange rate calculation I worked it out to be around $120G AUD. Have since seen it again here for $98G. Price is ridiculous even for me that would love to have one. But in my opinion having done 130,000kms with no real service history doesn't seem much of a buy. Especially when you can pick up ones with alleged restoration for around the same price!

Glad the dizzy is good, bloody expensive but I like you wanted a more updated ignition but without going too Nuts. Magnecore leads are great leads, used to work in a garage that had a license to make them. Great quality. I'll end up going the same way, but I'm not sure how I'll go changing out the plug nearest the bulkhead with the long stem?

So James, yours got pinched and later returned? Much damage, how did they start it, was it alarmed immobilised? Purpose of the theft a joyride, or more sinister like a parts requisition?

Andy, some one told me that the Ac on the 610 was split so that a portion of it was vented to the engine bay, it sounded far fetched back then but plausible with Renaults dislike for latent heat. True or false?
Cheers

Simon
P.s thanks for the compliment on the 5, I'll tell her when I get Home, it'll probably blush!

Interesting discussion!

The A610 is single turbo, Fed from both banks of the V6. I would imaginei t would be pretty laggy if fed from just the one, with roughly the equivalent displacement of the Gordini per bank! The turbo is much more ready to spin up in the A610 than it is in the Gordini.

It is a much cheaper proposition to buy but very rare. I have heard that the GTA turbo is great too. A bit more raw. I just always wanted the 610!

Accessing the rear most spark plug on the Gordini isn't too hard once you get used to doing it. You just need the right length spark plug socket and socket extension.

The A610 air con does nothing to cool the engine bay. He may be thinking of the fact that it is used to cool the fuel! Under the car, the fuel passes through a heat exchanger that uses the air con gas to take some heat out of the fuel. Intriguing idea!

With mine I am considering changing the ECU for an Adaptronic one. For improved reliability and mappability. Mine already has the fuel pump relay bridged so it runs all the time as the original ecu seems to want to cut it at the most inopportune moments! Not too safe in the event of an accident or other problem.

It was in an alarmed, secure storage place mate, the keys in a safe in the same building. So apparently 'they' got in undetected, disabled the alarms, magically opened the safe and drove my car & others away, and had time to empty of premises of useful garage equipment. Nicolas Cage has asked to make the film of it - 'Gone in 4 Hours'. Did I mention the owner lived over the road? And that he was trying to sell the place?

No the insurance company didn't believe either.....not much damage done, really could have been worse...thread is here:

Ok so not sinister in terms of the theft except they were in cahoots with the guy attempting to sell! Allegedly of course!
Got to love how the world works! Glad to hear she wasn't too bad, have just read the thread cheers, good reading!

Thanks for the info Andy,
There has been a yellow GTA for sale over here for a long while now. Would have probably bought it, if was a turbo.
You can see it here

http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars...)&(Make{=}[Alpine-Renault])))&sortby=TopDeal#

That may or may not work, looks a bit long of a link.
You mention that they may be a bit more raw, in terms of what? The whole car or just engine? I can see I'm going to have to google the two models and see what the differences are now!

Cheers

The GTA is a bit rawer, handling spikier and there is a much bigger gulf in performance terms than the figures suggest, A610 will annihilate a standard GTA in a straight line. Personally I think the GTA looks more distinctive but appreciate its a bit more marmite than an A610. Despite being newer the A610's definitely suffer more with rust - they had a fair bit more metal in than GTAs and it all rots :0(. What you really want is an A610 engine in a GTA - 200kgs lighter :0)

I had it for about 6 years, bought it off the salvage yard, had been crashed into a roundabout. Had it straightened, new panels fitted and painted in candy red, but then it just sat there never finished, paint reacted and it got scratched and chipped just sitting in the workshop.

Ok. Interesting. I knew it had been crashed but details were sketchy. It certainly drives fine and there's no evidence of any repairs that I can see!

I am wondering if you have any photos?
