Can't open the bonnet!!!! Help.

:( Damn, cable doesn't seem to be broken but it doesn't seem to have any 'pull' on it and doesn't feel right. God knows why this has happened but i'm looking for a way to get the bonnet open but it's not looking good. [smilie=doubt.gif]
Don't want to go to a Renault dealer for a couple of reasons, cost and lack of specific knowledge of our cars! I'm potentially going to take the car down to K-Tec racing in Dorset and leave the car there until it's sorted.I've already called them but they are busy especially weekends  Might have to try drop it off Friday afternoon which is a 1.5 hr drive from here, come home and then pick it up when ready, minus ££££££ :violin:

Interestingly the car was bought and originally owned by K-Tec racing themselves, the second owner spent a fair bit of cash there also buying the KW coilovers and Exhaust.

As a last resort, anyone else had this? If not go check the operation of your catch and grease the bloody thing!

Had a similar thing,, get someone to lift the bonnet as you pull the lever inside the car. If it works get the grease out. i have been recalled back to renault for my bonnet catch. Dont think it is part of a service to grease the catch any more so if it has the slightest bit of rust on it you might be able to get one from renault under this recall . does'nt cost you!!!! :)
hope you sort it.

The safety catch-8200677854 and two retaining nuts 7703033159 replacing, and the release catch should just need lubricating, if it needs replacing then the part number is 8200125591.

Your nearest Renault main dealer should sort it for you.

Your car probably didn't get flagged up for the bonnet catch recall as it isn't a UK car.

Ive tried lifting the bonnet whilst someone pulls the cable, no luck. The cable pull is doing nothing so the bonnet will not lift! There is no reasonable access to the catch area so can't activate the release.Once open i can of course sort it but it will not open. Looks like a long winded and costly excerise. :(

Many thanks for the part numbers James, appriciated mate. Not keen on going to my local Renault dealer tbh, they probably haven't got a clue on the V6. They probably just have the junior mechanic rag it about! :race:

James why is mine NOT a UK car? It's not been imported.

Hi

Al i think if you remove the plastic d undertray panel betweent the bumper and the subframe you can then see up the front of the radiators and I think you maybe then able to see the underside of the catch, a long rod should be able to push/pull the catch arm across, get someone to gently push the bonnet down to take the tension off the catch so it will move easier.

in this picture you can see the underside of the catch, with a metal rod with a 90 bend, it need to be strong but not to large

bonnetcatch1.jpg

You need to hook it behind the lever that holds the bonnet down, its spring loaded so you will need to use some force to move across but as I said get some to gently push the bonnet down as when it under tension the lever will be much harder to move.

Need more pictures let me know

Good Luck

Steve

I had a problem like this when I first got mine!

I had to keep trying both the catches until it opened which it finally did with 2 of us and me gently pushing down on the front of bonnet. Chances are it won't be the cable just needs a good greasing up :approve: mine hasn't done it since :)

Yeah as deano said try pushing down when someone else pulls the leaver, happened on a few old clios but not the vee!

:approve: Cheers guys i really appreciate your input and thanks Steve for the pictures! As someone has already said, S&G Motorsport is just down the road from me, i've just spoke to Scott there and i'm going over there in about an hours time. I'll leave it with him and hopefully he will get the job done when he can fit it in, fingers crossed it won't be too heavy on the pocket! :violin: I'll let you know how it goes.

Took the car to Scott at SG Motorsport this evening, he will give it a go when he has a few spare minutes. Great workshop, nice to see another few Vees for once! 8) Scott seems a great knowledgable guy, i have faith in him [smilie=boohoo.gif] Will keep you updated for those interested.

Just a quick update, my Vee is back with me again after the bonnet problem.Scott said the cable had disconnected from the catch but not sure why [smilie=icon_cry.gif] . Oh well all is fine now ,thanks to Scott i have a new catch and latch through Renault for free! :approve: . I also had a new bonnet release cable fitted which apparently is a swine of a job  So a big thumbs up to Scott for me, a very helpful and knowledgable guy. [smilie=boohoo.gif]
