Can I paint my abs rings?

Chris V6

New Member
I am just getting my v ready for show time and just cant live with the front hubs, I was going to have them power coated but they carry the ABS ring. I dont really want to remove the ring as it will be a pig to get on and off so thought about leaving it on and getting it powder coated as dont really want to paint it my hand because it needs to be a A1 finish but will it affect the ABS working ??

Thanks for any help

Sounds involved and £££££. Stripping the driveshafts down to unpack all the grease then powder coating etc.I'm sure when the shaft input splines are covered, they could cover ABS ring too.

I look forward to seeing pics when finished.

Example pic for those who don't know where the ABS ring is.

Powder coat them? Are you for real? That would mean topping up the gearbox fluid and all sorts. ABS rings are super sensitive. One of mine was knocked slighly last year and my complete system went down. So adding thick powder coat will not help. My advise would be leave them alone. Wirebrush them and DUST them with rattle paint at most.

I know its a big job and a ££££ one but I cant live with the rustly bits !! If I cant paint the ring it may have to be sprayed instead lots of masking then to protect the ring !!!

I will take some pics of how I waste all my money on things you can not really c !!

I don't think you've quite got the grasp how they work Chris. I'm pretty sure any painting of the ring and tooth gear assembly will weaken the pick up signal. If your going through all that trouble, get them galvinised. At least they will look OEM that way and not muck up the rings signal.

I did not really want to remove the abs rings as I was concerned I may damage then or not get them back in the correct place. I could tape off the ring and have each side sprayed ??

also on the guide for how to refill the gearbox it mentions the oil dip stick to check the level any one know if this has a part number ?

I was thinking I would leave the whole toothed ring alone and spray either side of it on the hub, as although not perfect the toothed ring is pritty good. So I can leave it in place and mask the toothed ring then have the body shop spray both sides. What do you think ?

Kinda gota use them as they have the stuff to get my car up in the air and stripped plus I dont want risk taking it apart myself as it gota go back A1 !!

I reckon the answer to your thread is NO! Well how much is a new ring/sensor? Do what you want to do and just buy a new ring if needed if you can afford it, budget it into your costs.

New ring comes with the whole driveshaft. They can be bought elsewhere and that will include getting the old one pressed off etc.

I have a couple in mind but it all depends on the weather !! and how long it takes to sort as now its up in the air I am doing all the bolts hubs etc its not going to be cheep and a real hassel but pics to follow !!

Thanks Martin, they seem to think that a very light dusting of paint will be ok ?? hum to paint or not to paint !!

as for trailer humm thinking about it as I drove it to Kimbolton last year and it took me over 6 hours to get back as it started to rain and was a very long wait for it to clear and dry !! but then I think it is a shame not to drive it !!
