Again just wanted to learn more on this topic...
Someone had mentioned the cambelt rotors to me.
Will the mechanic replace the cambelt rotors as well together?
For the parts, is it a whole cambelt kit(includes rotors and belt) or something?

Please school me on this, I am no mechanics, thanks!

Give me an "S"

What have you got....!?

SPAM....

Kit comes with new pulleys and belt. Think it's about £250 trade price. Not sure what Renault would charge for it probably £800!! :)

Was £254 believe it's now £308 trade now and that Water pump is £89.

Either way thats what i'm paying and i'm happy with under £400 for Cambelt kit + pump

Rotors????

It aint a wankel engine. Who told you that?

Steve

oh, so that's what they are called, cambelt pulleys
since i heard from one of my friends just got the cambelt done last time, so he suggest me to do the whole thing together

wow, just the pulley and belt is already about 300 quids...

anyways thanks guys, well i dig up lots old posts, maybe i didnt try hard enough...

Hi

See you are from HK as well - did you buy Gary's car?

I'm also from HK had my cambelt done here and sourced the cambelt kit, water pump from UK rather than Wearnes / Renault from ClarkieV6 in UK. Shipping is about 70 quid but you don't have to pay VAT on exported goods from UK so it works out cheaper than direct from the Wearnes dealer.

Also 5 of us met in July in HK and Owen (membername Boerboelok) has a friend who is an ex Jebsen dealer / Renault mechanic who can work on your car and can also source the parts cheaper.

i'll be putting together a meet in the next few weeks so watch this space!

"rotors" is an americanism term for most spinning discs and pulley's. They also refer to brake discs as Rotors as well.

back on this topic again..
i got a quote from renault in hk, the parts are ready in the dealer and less hassle to get it back from europe...

just wondering if every part of the below is needed to be replaced for your cambelt service last time?

5L of coolant, timing kit, water pump(these are for sure)
alt belt
belt tensioner
idler pulley
crankshaft pulley
chemical gasket

just need your thoughts on this guys, thanks!
even with the discounts on parts, like 15% off, and 10% for the labour, the bill comes up big though.....

i will get this fix as soon as this got confirmed...

Thanks!

I think at the end of the day, the point is that the labour is the biggest stinger due to the nature of the job, so you might as well be safe and replace what renault recommends otherwise you'll be paying twice the labour should something go wrong with a part you chose not to replace later on, or worst case scenario, big engine failure then.

I would replace the water pump too as they do tend to leak, even at low miles, as mine was.

I know i'd rather pay a little extra to know it's all good under the lid.

The main point it must be carried out correctly.

Renault produce a kit of parts including water pump use it.

It is a hard 10 hours graft, do not know cost per hour in HK but that gives you a basis.

Get in contact with Wongy for more advice than I can give as regards HK

thank you for all the comments guys!
there's more problems coming up....see you guys in "problems with your V6" forum

oh god, finally got my car back
the dealer said, the engine mounts are aged already, and there will be big clunking noises when shift and low revs

before i brought the car in, it wasnt like this at all...
i wonder if they broke the rubber on the mount while taking the engine out...
it has real bad clunking noise when i shift in low revs, but in high revs, it seemed fine...

so do you guys think it is the engine mounts?
is it also possible the engine mount has been damaged right now? since it wasnt like this at all before....

mounts are expensive to replace and it takes a long time to ship from france to hk too....i heard some of you guys getting the solid ones? 75quid each?? that's a lot of money suddenly too...damn

damn i m really sad and unsatisfy right now...=( this is the first time i m mad at my car....do i have to leave the car in the car park before it is fixed? =(
