Cambelt Query

I'm off to speak to a Renault dealer tomorrow to discuss the dreaded Cambelt, what work do I actually need to be getting done?
From reading other threads it seems most people had Cambelt, Aux belt and Water pump. I dont think a new clutch is necessary on a 20k mile car so I'll not be bothering with that. Oh and are pulleys and Aux belt the same thing? Thanks.

i have just had my belt replaced in my sons work,he works in a subaru garage in prestwick,thats where i bought my car,they changed it without takeing the engine out,they do a good job.tony

I'm going to Pollockshaws in Glasgow, i'm trying to clarify what needs done at the same time as the cambelt.

the main reason to do the clutch is the "whilst your there" theory.

the likleyhood is that you engine wont come out for another 5 years till the next cambelt change, whilst the original clutch might not last 10 years. if you do have to change the cluctch in the next five years it will cost a hell of a lot more than it will do to replace it now.

but that ones totally down to personal preference.

but yeah your right, Cambelt, Aux belt and Water pump and the ones to get done.

Cheers Duncan but I'm led to believe the dealer I'm going to doesnt take the engine out for the cambelt which is one of the reasons why I wont be getting the clutch done.

I'm pretty sure that Renault dealers change the cambelt with the engine still in.

there seem to be various schools of thought, but it is possible to change with the engine in place.

an advantage to taking it out is being able to give everything an inspection (and also a clean).

Right, just back from the dealer and they will be doing it with the engine in place thankfully.

They have done 5 vee's and seem to know what they're talking about so I've booked in for Monday.

I am intersted in how your cam belt change went at Pollockshaws ,??
I had my 24000 service about a month ago, I am a bit nervious leaving my V with anyone , I used to be in the motor trade and I dont trust any one with my V
went I pick it up, the guy was just driving out the car park for a test drive , I couldnt help keeping an eye on him
But all very profesional (it was gone for about a 1 min with less that 1 mile on the clock) and more important, no fast driving!!
The only shock I got was the rear brake pad recomendation/quote for £390 (Hee hee, I think not)
I think i will be will purchase the Mintex avalible on ebay for 25 Notes

My belt will need changed next march (I have aready purchased all belt, pump & pullys)
I had intending do this myself but may now take the Pollockshaws route,

i do the timingbelts on v6 clio's @ pollokshaws road. not only do i not take the engine out but i do my best to do everything as clean and proffesional as possible, if you are unsure or not trusting anybody to do the job i would recommend to come in to polly rd and ask for myself..
