Bright Green Liquid on garage Floor!

Hi everyone,

Im new to these boards although was a silent member a couple of years back. Im in need of some help as I've come across my first problem with the car today in just under 3 years of owning her.

I have a 55 plate 255 V6 and today I noticed a small amount of bright green liquid on the garage floor this morning and immediately thought the worst. After looking it seems to be coming from a large (ish) pipe situated directly under the drivers seat. There seems to be a washer type thing loose on the pipe and can be moved quite freely. I then looked under the car with a torch and noticed the small flap (drivers side) that hangs down slightly is also covered in this green fluid..Please help..Im actually quite upset over it! :( [smilie=icon_cry.gif] In a manly type of way of course..

thanks in advance everyone.

Hi IainL :)

Good to see you again.

The bright green liquid sounds like anti-freeze, but I've seen air con fluid leaks being a similar colour.

The large pipe rings a bell as a water hose connecting pipe.

Thanks everyone...

Ive just had a small brain wave :s and wondered if it could be air-con related? I recently had the air conditioning re-gassed and Renault told me they had left the dye in the system. Could it be this? :s It had a rather nice smell to it... [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

James, thanks alot mate :)..

Air con is my guess.

The pipes do run under the car as suggested.

If its just been re-gassed and the leak has just started thats my guess.

The a/c pipes under the car from the rad to the compressor have connectors that are prone to corrosion.

....stupid question, isnt the air con charged with refrigerant, ie a gas unless it is under pressure. how would this therefore leak on the floor?

could be powersteering fluid....lost all mine a while back due to a 2 euro cent washer !.......

if it's power steering you'll notice it straight away, mine was practically impossible to move the car at slow speeds without it....was much fun trying to get it out of my garage & onto a flatbed tow truck

Thats the leak gents..Directly under the drivers seat..

The power steering feels fine. Engine temp seems normal.

I spoke to Renault today as they only had the car in 4 odd weeks ago so its going in tomorrow for them to look at..

In that picture you can see the washer that is loose but Im not %100 sure if its connected to the problem.

I think the dye is to simply check for leaks...They did mention they'd put it in...

So they put dye in to check for leaks, supposedly didn't spot the leaking, and then proceded to re-fill the system ? If so I'd be a little bit annoyed and expecting some money back ... pipes are prone to corrosion though as mentioned earlier ...

I had the exact same issue. A slow a/c leak found using bright green leak detector. It's liquid that flows out and is designed to be visible so you can see where its coming from. Its mixed with the refridgerant. Its visible but the gas lost isn't. ;)

A slow leak can't be found by the a/c test machines.

Check the pipe joint where the pipe from the front of the car reaches the engine bay and joins with another pipe at the front of the engine bay (drivers side).

Spot on!! I took it in to Renault this morning and they confirmed it was my AC pipes had split and was leaking the dye! Looks like I've hit them on a sleeping policeman and they've ruptured! :( I'm not even going to tell you what they've quoted me! :violin:
