Breather pipe

Lucy J

New Member
Hi,
Has anyone had the breather pipe break on there vee?
Part number is 9629 730 180.

Renault's broke this trying to replace my spark plugs. They are saying it is a common fault when the car gets older and from the heat generated????? I have not come across this as a problem before....
Scott at SG Motorsport hasn't had any break when he has changed them before either....

Thanks for any feedback :)

Lucy

If that is the pipe that's broken (induction pipe in James link) then I would say Renault are talking absolute rubbish ! More likely they (or someone previously) has split it or damaged it.

Yes that is the pipe! That is the part number renaults gave me today. I've had the car from new so damage wasn't done by someone previously and it wasn't broken before it went in. Apparantly it is over-revving as this is broken and it certainly wasn't doing that when I took it in for the coil!

They say it just crumbled in there hands as they went to take it off. They reckon it is due to the age of the car and the heat generated that has made this part weak. Seems strange to me though... as James said 63,000 posts on here and no-else has had this problem....
I can't help but feel they have been heavy handed, a view backed up by quite a few people now.

Thanks guys :approve:

Hmmm you should quote the amount of posts to the Manager there sounds good  whilst mentioning the director of Renault in the same sentence.

Ha ha, I like your thinking!!! Maybe where I went wrong was not mentioning the director of Renaults.. I actually mentioned the site and the number of posts and he seemed distinctly unimpressed and didn't have an answer other than it was a common problem!

Perhaps the same part is fitted on a Laguna v6 and his fitters are heavy handed when theses cars come into their workshop?

Very common and Clio v6 simply don't go together. ;)

I think if you looked at the said pipe it would be quite obvious if it had 'crumbled' away or been torn/split - that is of course if they still have it, but I think they are supposed to keep your old parts for inspection this i.e. so as not to be seen to be swinging the lead ...

You could then make your own judgment ...

I reckon the dealership broke it. I've removed this pipe a few times now with no problem as long as you forceably apply pressure to the plastic clamp to release it (IIRC). If you simply tried to pull it off then yes you would break it!

I did ask to have a look at it last night but they didn't have the piece. They said it was all crumbled and nothing left.
They tried to show me where is was missing from but with a torch but it was not very easy to see!!
Apparantly there is a section of it left that is still attached and they have been told to keep it for me to see once it is removed. All sounding a bit dodgy though...!!

The mechanic working on it looked like he was barely out of high school which that wasn't very reassuring! [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif] [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif] [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif]

Lucy ... you need to confront these jokers, and if they don't respond you need to escalate! No joy with the service manager, then ask to speak to the Dealer Principle, and then if you get no joy there get on the 'phone to Renault.

You need to tell them that despite their claim that this is a part that fails commonly, you've sought the advice of the largest V6 owners' club in the UK, and no other owner has had the part fail!

Tell them that if removed properly the part shouldn't have failed! By their own admission that there is a part still attached, it is reasonable for you to conclude that they simply tried to pull the pipe off, rather than correctly apply pressure to the clamp.

Also ask to see the job sheets and confirm that the work has been carried out by a senior RTE (I bet it hasn't), and request information on experience of working on Clio V6s that this person has.

Basically sound sure footed and assertive without getting angry, and give them hell!

Despite all the above, they'll probably still continue to wriggle. If you get to the point where they demand payment for return of your car, then you absolutely must ensure that you give them a letter which makes it clear that any payment is made without predjudice since this makes it clear that you've not accepted their version of events and reserve your rights to take action despite the payment.

Hi Lucy,

Might be worthwhile signing up to RenaultSport.co.uk and posting your problems with the service you've recieved. There are lots of dealers on there and people who who for Renault UK who could help - Not tonight though, as forum is down :)

Hope you get it sorted mate.

Matt

Hi Andy and Matt,
Thanks to both of you for your posts - very useful :D

I spoke to Renault customer care yesterday and they were going to speak to the dealership on my behalf to investigate and try and get them to admit liability. I haven't heard back from them yet but I don't hold much hope in them resolving this!! ha ha
I'll keep on trying the routes you have suggested but I get the feeling i'm gonna have to bite the bullet on this one and pay for it myself.
They're quick enough to sell a car to you but their after sales care leaves a lot to be desired!

If they do "remember" to give me the remaining part that is still on the car then i'll take some pics of it and try to put them on here! We can have a vote then as to wether we think wear and tear or heavy handed damage! Lol

I would be absolutely livid.... All personel working on Clio V6's, Avantime and Vel Satis should be a senior technician, @Andy has said. They get sent on courses to specialise on these cars.

Some dealerships are a joke... Name and shame please Lucy!

Do your recall Renault set up "Premier Centres" for these top models? Didn't last very long as all dealership employees were "equally well trained". LMAO
