brakes on my rt to valver conversion

Guest

im changing my engine as alot of you know. been told to uprate the brakes. can i just change the pads and disks for uprated ones for an rt and keep calipers or is it advised to go whole hog and change calipers too. its all being done in roughly a week so need to know asap

yeah i know they bolt straight on but valver calipers are pretty pricey even used

If your using the 16v discs/pads, you will need to use the calipers & carriers aswell.

Craig

what about just uprating disks and pads on rt calipers, not 16v disks and pads

For the price you spend on getting uprated discs, I bet you could source a second hand 16v setup. How much have you been quoted? PM me if you don't want to disclose on here.

IMO, it was the best upgrade I did to both my RT and 1.2.

i havent looked at disk and pad prices yet mate. was just trying to work out easiest way to save messing with brakes too much. dont wanna be spending too much cos this car is burning a hole in my bank account as it is, if i was to go for 16v calipers then i would buy new pads and disks anyway

Easiest way is to get new discs/pads for the RT calipers, but as above, I'd recommend upgrading to the 16v setup.... you wont be dissapointed.

If your interested at all i've just uprated my valver onto wilwood calipers so I can sell you a good pair of (girling) 1.8 16v calipers for a very reasonable price. How does 40quid plus postage grab ya?

YOu only need to uprate the brakes if you experience brake fade, or you cant lock up the wheels.

bit pricey for me at the moment mate. cant afford 40 notes plus postage on 2 calipers only

Thats a good price, i paid the same for mine and you wont get them much cheaper, they weigh loads and are pretty big. I sold mine on ebay for £65.

Get the calipers then try http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-CLIO-1-8- ... dZViewItem

Not cheap but still good value for money and you'll notice a big difference, wouldnt be safe driving a 16v engine with rt brakes, i have trouble with the 16v ones as it is lol.
