To quote Mike Copson [ Shell's F1 Technology Manager] in this months Evo mag;
"Increasing octane will, in general, produce a superior fuel. However, different vehicles will give different responses to increased octane, ranging from significant power and acceleration benefits down to zero benefit. More importantly, the actual fuel components used to provide the octane increase will have an influence on the degree of power increase."
My own personal experiences with Optimax in a standard tune v6 255 have shown no gain in power or acceleration but filling with Total Premium 98 gave a noticeable improvement in both throttle response and acceleration.
Because of where I live, my regular tank fill is BP Ultimate with 1 bottle of Millers Octane Boost poured into the tank prior to filling. This gives the similar [subjectively] throttle response and acceleration improvements to Total and increased mpg.
