Beautiful exhaust tune

Fitted original k-tec stainless box, supplied from Jamie G (his old 1) and TRW1s custom decats supplied by Ant. Took most of friday to fit - stripping down the vee, covers, panels, heatshields etc just to get at the cats. Any how they are on now - and sounds awesome what a lovely rumble, was well worth the days work fitting. Just got to take the bulb out of the dash for the engine mangement light now. I have an even bigger smile on my face when i start her up now. lol :D :D :D

would love to hear a sound clip :)

should get it on the rollers too, should have helped free a few extra horses

Congrats.
Decats really add to the sound. Get a clip up asap, though it'll never sound as good as standing beside it......

I am planning to do that too, can you please do a write up on what is involved in removing the full exhaust? How much time did it take you?

glad you got it fitted, it must sound great! Bet it looks alot better aswell, especially if you got the polish out 8)

Yes i had the polish out, only prob is it will be dirty again in a few weeks. What is involved as i stated, removing all engine covers, both manifold heatshields, cat heatshields. Is quite a fiddle of a job because you are constantly between under the car and working inside the car behind the seats and from the back of the car. Took from about 10am till 5pm. Will prob be a lot shorter when i need to replace them for the mot as i now know what i need to remove and replace. I had the vee on a jack and axle stands doing this in the drive so a good day is need to. Also remove the oil filter to help with easing the longer down pipe out. Any help i can be, ask the question. Steve

Surely the engine is in limp home / fault mode, and thus slower by some margin?

Wil be sweet after a new ECU and map tho! 8)

Peter :D

The limp mode does not effect the RS models, i checked this out before i started.(Had a long conversation with 1 of the lads at yozzasport, they are only down the road from me so im thinking of getting them to do my remap etc.) All power is there, only prob is the dash light - but easily solved when i take the bulb out!! Lol

what do you mean all engine covers need to be removed? the rear of the car stripped?

Well you need to remove the two 'normal' engine covers, then remove the outer sections which sit next to the rear windows. Then there is the thin black square cover which has hundreds of bastard screws in it.

With regards to the engine light - you might be ok. I decat'd my mk1 and the engine light only ever appeared when it sat idling for ages - 99% of the time it was off. Mk2 may be different?

Thats what i meant with the covers - cheers mike. As for the dsah light, its on and has been since the 3rd time i started it up with the decats on. The sensors which plug in i have only 2 plugged in. 1 on each pipe. On the original cats there is 1 before the cat and 1 after. So im pretty sure it will stay on.

The guys doing the exhaust for me said they might have a way to trick the light. I will let you guys know if I am able to trick it. Wont have time to do it til next month though.

So, no one has done a write up on this painful job?
