My vee is now wanting its 3rd battery in 8000 miles. 1st one lasted 5 years, 2nd 2 and a half and now its not taking enough of a charge to crank over. Both were genuine Renault batteries. Im thinking this time go for a Halfords (or similar) with a 5 year warranty on it. I find even with a trickle charger that I use most of the time the two genuine Renault one have not been so good.

Has anyone else had the same? Or recommend a make of battery thats lasted better than any other?

Bosch heavy duty , look on eBay for Clio v6 battery 5yr warranty

Can you be sure it's not a starter motor issue? many owners have been through the "need a battery" scenario only to find a starter was needed.

If you leaving it standing for long periods its not good for a car battery , they need use, if you gonna leave standing for long periods without use something like a battery optimate is a good option ..

Its had a starter 500 miles ago too (500 miles thats about 3 years probably haha!)

got a trickle charger already Iain, its been on and off the car for months as it doesn't get a lot of use, this current battery hasn't done well at all. I can get a 5yr warranty Bosch from Halfruds with my trade discount for round £70 so its not so bad even if it does only last for just over 5 years
