battery drain

Hi Sean , i have disconnected the siren and left the car locked overnight and had no battery drain this morning . so is it a case that the siren is faulty ? or is it a case that by disconnecting the siren the hole alarm immobilizer is now inactive . [smilie=thanks.gif]

Forgot to say the siren is a cobra with a serial no 7897 / 4b7897r1c . now that the siren is disconnected , will the hole alarm / immobilizer now be inactive ?

Depends if it has a Cat 1 or Cat2-1 fitted.

Cat 1 will have 2 immobilizer circuits and would not allow the car to start.

Cat 2-1 is just a battery back up alarm and uses the cars chipped key as it's immobilizer. ( The original chipped key already gave it Cat 2 status ) The 2-1 alarm brought the standard key system up to full Cat 1 standard by adding a battery backed up alarm system. Hence the term Cat 2 to 1

How may wires come out from the siren ? Earlier versions had the whole alarm built into the siren, Later versions had a hideaway brain unit and a separate coded siren.

Hi Sean , not sure which system it is ( sorry ) there are 15 wires coming from the siren . the led on the dash is still flashing . there are maybe two wires that go from the siren loom through the bulk head into the car . I guess i win the most awkward forum member of the week award ( sorry ) . regards marc

Sounds like the siren's battery pack has went tit's up and causing an excessive draw.

Does your alarm work of the original Renault key or does it have a separate alarm fob ?

The reason i ask is that 2-1 alarms can come in two guises.... One with it's own fob's and one thats operated by the action of locking and unlocking of the car with the original car's remote.

Best to ask the question if you decide to get that one.......

Hi Sean , the alarm works off the key when you lock and unlock . It never beeps though which i think it should . so will the siren you found on ebay be ok ? thanks for your patience on this one

Sorry fella, just noticed you had replied, No arm or disarm tone was standard although could be programed to do so.......

If it's like for like then i would think it would be fine...... Guessing !!

Hi Sean , no worries mate , it turned out to be a dodgy starter motor , good old scott from sg motorsport sorted it out for me . Thanks for all your help though . kind regards marc
