anyone tell me which way the battery in the remote key fob on a mk1 goes in? the handbook just says to follow what it says on the cover but there is nothing there. I should know this and should have noted the way the old one came out
True, but not such a good practice I think, (must admit I have tried it though!) its just my remote has suddenly ceased to work and I only changed the battery a few months ago. My spare one is, for stupid reasons, 10 miles away and I cannot get it till tommorrow.
Its no more dangerous than placing a triple or double A battery in a TV remote......You can also use the key to open your door without the remote.......how long have you owned the Vee?

I knew it wasnt 'dangerous' but it is an electronic device that could be damaged by that or, at best a good battery flattened. I obviously know that I can use the key, but thats not the point, I just wanted to work out why it has suddenly failed on me. Its too late now anyhow, I can get my hands on the spare tommorrow and probably drop the battery out on that one while opening it.
Anyone else suffered a failure of one of these? and can you buy a new one without a lock change?
I fixed it!
I carefully prised out the pcb and found the tiny on board switch (that is operated when the outside button is pressed) had become detatched at on end. A tiny and carefully placed blob of solder did the trick.
The batterry, by the way, fits with the + facing down into the outer casing.
