Alarm Fob just broke

scrabble

New Member
Just when the car is running good and im saying its a pleasure to have such a unique car the alarm fob breaks. On closer inspection the button that is soldered to the chip circuit inside has broken off. I can get it soldered which I will at some point but I do need to buy another with a key as well.

When I go to Reno tomorrow what do I need to take? Do they require some kind of security number so that a new one can be ordered?

For now I have to lock the car up manually as I only have one key and fob!

Thanks

same thing happened to both my keys at the same time: LINK

i soldered them back on and both keys now work fine [smilie=bunny_4.gif]

spare keys are quite expensive from renault (over £100). I have heard of people buying them from ebay and re programming them for a significant saving ? perhaps someone with some experience can help you there. :thumb

be aware that the key alone only does the lock, not the alarm!!

Thanks Duncan

You hit the nail on the head. I know a guy who repairs Tvs...maybe he could solder it? Im good at soldering 15 and 22mm copper pipe but I dont know about circuit boards. Plus my hands shake (not alcohol related)

I still need to get another key and fob though...will go to the shafters tom and find out the cost.

I am aware the key only locks the car. So the blip fob deactivates the immoboliser and alarm? I know on my Berlingo van that the key has an inbuilt chip that deactivates the immoboliser when you put it near the ingnition for starting up. I thought maybe the Renos do the same?

Just rang Reno to find out when my new key and two fobs would be coming in as its been two weeks and the parts guy told me they were sitting there already for a week.

Thanks for the phone call Reno

[smilie=icon_cyclops_ani.gif] how much are they charging you to program fob ? i was quoted £65 last month at my local reno dealer [smilie=badpc.gif]

So...I go to Reno and they have the wrong items.

I asked for two alarm fobs and one blade and they order in one blade and two immobiliser transponders.

The parts guy reckons that the Clio V6 is the only Reno ever to have a seperate alarm fob plus the key and transponder. The alarm fob operates the central locking and alarm and the key operates the immobilser via a small micro chip in the black plastic body which deactivates the immobilser when placed near the barrel.

I left the alarm fob business for the parts guy to sort out but am I right in thinking that my new immobilser chip in the plastic body needs to be reprogrammed to my car? The new blade works fine and operates the doors and ignbition but the car just turns over and over without starting which therefore means my new immobilser fob is not deactivating the car.

Please help :(

Yes, you need to get the key "programmed" to the car. They have cut it to the correct key code, as the key opens the doors/works the ignition.
The chip in the key head will need to be programmed to the cars immobilizer, so that when you go to start the car, the interaction between the immobilizer and key will allow it to start.
Probably a Renault only job unfortuantly, as they will probably have to send off to Renault for a programming code, which will allow for a new immobilizer chip to be coded to the car. (This is what we have to do at work- different franchise but most manufactures have the same procedure to follow)

What a pain! :s

They have done that already and sent two black immobilser fobs to the garage with the chips inside. They dont work? Anway, the new keys etc are back with the parts guy and he can sort it. I know that the alarm fob needs to be programmed but wasnt sure about the immobilser fob?

All veeeeeeeeeeeeery confusing.

:(
