Air Filter Replacement

I have the car going to Scott's soon-ish to get a few bits done, and I was just thinking about my air filter.

When I got the car 10ish years ago, I replaced the standard filter with a PiperX one. Scott cleans it out for me regularly, but I was wondering if its something I should consider replacing given its age? The car is a bit of a garage queen so doesn't get a lot of mileage, but I assume these things can deteriorate over time?

Thoughts?

I've just watched a video of one being cleaned and re-oiled etc, it said "Now it's good for another 50K miles until the next service".

...also bearing in mind that it's a lot better protected than the usual front-engined filters that get filled with shite.
