Advice with F7R williams turbo conversion...

Decided to put my 5 on hold and I have sold the engine, box and turbo out of it. My the oil pump on my 19 has packed in and the engine has started rattling extremely bad so I have decided it should take priority over the 5 because I would like it ready for next summer :).

After selling my last F7R megane engine to make £100 priofit I bought a Clio williams engine last weekend and I have decided to turbo it. Engine is away to get rebuilt and the pistons will be having 1.9mm skimmed off to lower the compression so there will be no going back once it has been done.

Has anyone got any tips or advice for me before this goes ahead?

I used to love 5 turbo's but now i'm a little older I prefer my 19 over my 5. I think the 19 will look awsome with a front mount poking out the bumper and 300bhp :D

I think it deserves to be turbo'd since Renault couldn't be bothered doing it in the first place

aye man, id be curious to read that. thatd be my ideal conversion at some point. how u goin about gettin turbo/ mani? anyone do a kit or that? is it 2L willy lump?

I have the full 2.0 williams engine, turbo exhaust manifolds are about £120, I have a nissan 200sx turbo siltting to bolt on, 21 turbo injectors and map sensor. my time scale will prob only allow me to get 250 bhp at max for now. Did you manage to sell your head and cams?

the 172 doesnt use a speedo cable, i think lol well the later ones anyway, the mk1 172 maybe, or you might be able to remove the drive and still fit a cable but i dont know
neal or chris will more than likely

Phase 1 clio 172 or 172 cup car have cable driven speedos rather than using the ABS sensors. As for the 21 turbo injectors you wont see 250bhp from there. Even bosch cosworth green injectors are getting close to max at that power.

Mine is getting a O2M box being put in with conversion :)

What injectors will be best then bigfoot? Any ideas mate? 440's?

my 2 pence worth .... the f7p rods are chunkier than the f7r so i would and do intend to go down that route (Boosting the f7p engine) on a budget ,not a big fan of skimming pistons, just run 6-8 psi till you can afford low comp. internals. Try a decompression gasket if you really want to lower compression don't know if they work well but at least its reversable and only about 40 quid. 250bhp will probally kill the box very quickly. 250bhp on a budget build is optmistic well for reliablity anyway. Persionally my plan is between 175 - 200 bhp but to make the power as useable as possible.

I used bosch 803 injectors which should be fine, get a T28 with .64 rear housing and make sure you have a paddle clutch which will cope, got one for sale if needed ;) will cope fine up to 400ft/lbs as was used in glenn Hi 5 renault 5 which done 11 sec 1/4 mile. Like said can skim the pistons which shouldn't be a problem or go forged, make sure you lower it enough for getting a standard gasket, wouldn't bother with these plates and thick gaskets, just adds the price up loads on the build and when something goes wrong its another £100 just to replace the gasket. Had a £15 head gasket on mine running 270bhp still on a valeo volvo clutch and 172 gearbox, all running fine apart from a lack of oil pressure put a stop to things :(

Conversion now is 900cc injectors, gt2871 turbo with .86 rear housing - largest GT28 series turbo you can get and with a cupra R gearbox with spec stage 3 clutch, plus looking at PWR charge cooler, put that in a 5 and run about 2 bar of boost just for fun. Box will last but depends on how you treat it, somebody running near on 450ft/lbs constantly including taking it up pod finally destroyed it after about 3 to 4 months of abuse, but running 250bhp treat it well and it will be fine.
