We can certainly look into this as well as second vehicle discounts so get on the phone to us to see what we can do! :)

Dan, question for you (apologies for going slightly off topic):

Some of us SORN our cars over winter so only on the road for 6-months a year. Is there a policy out there that recognises this and allows you to be with the same insurer for full 12-month period and enabling no claims to build up?

At present, solution appears to be

a) keep fully comp insurance policy running for 12 months
b) cancel fully comp policy and replace with laid-up policy

Neither ideal as a) is costly given car not moving for 6-months or b) does not allow no claims to accrue and you get hit with cancellation charges.

Welcome your input [smilie=thanks.gif]

Hi Iain

No is the short answer. You could reduce the fully comp policy to third party only if the Insurer will allow, this may save you a bit of money. However you may not be able to increase it back to comp so it would need to be first 6 months comp second 6 months tpo. Or may be a fully comp policy with very low mileage?

Thanks

Dan

Dan

the demand for 6/6 policies would be huge, would it not be worth seeing if your company could arrange something with an underwriter??

certainly would interest me!!

Not sure what the difference in 'risk' is between a car with 3k mile per year over a 12 month period and 3k mile per year over 6 months with 6 months in the garage.... To my mind they're the same.
The only issue could be, does a 12 month policy cover a sorn car?

But we're back to "if the main risk is on the road, why is 3,000 mile in 6 months any different a risk from 3,000 miles in 12 months?" If it isn't different then the premium wouldn't be different.

£189 fully comp with no voluntary excess (only £250 compulsory) £12k altered value (and recognised at current market values)...(Beware the official insurance value of just £2790 , be sure to confirm "Market Value" Cover) ... parked on the driveway , 3 points for speeding , full NCD

I'd like to donate my £20 win to V6Clio club please !

Third party fire and theft will be more expensive than Fully Comp for 99% of current Vee owners , I'm Sure !

Laid-up insurance is not worth bothering with , just put in the annual mileage from your last MOT and you will definately get a better quote than laid-up !

Don't buy multi-car insurance ... my best renewal for both cars was over £1000 , I insured the Vee for £189 and then insured my "Winter" Starlet for just £129 ! ... Proof of claim-free driving , including a Full NCD on another policy, now allows for a second and third car to be insured as though you had your full NCD to apply ! Essentially , Multi-Car is one of the biggest scams ever conceived !

Always add your Mum / Grandma as a named driver , it will lower your quote considerably ...

:)

That's not really fair. It usually (not always!) works fine with standard cars but it (pretty much) always falls down when something sporty or rare is involved.

Your comment about yr mum/grandma is a very good point though.
