abs removal/pedal box question

James

Member
to remove my abs and convert to non abs i have heard that i need to do something to the brake pedal.

does any one know what i have to do and maybe have a pic of parts. can i get them from say a 1.4 19

You need the entire non abs pedal box, master cylinder, servo and brake lines from any 19. 16v specific bits are the the remote fluid res bits

thats sweet as cheers guys. presumably you need the engine out to remove the pedal box assembly

also which servo should i use do i stick with 16v one or should i do what neal did, no where round here has a 16v one but managed to find renault kangoo one for 40 quid plus vat

Engine out defo.

Pretty sure the servo would be the same in any r19 and probably clio so they're a common item to find 2nd hand - get this confirmed though.

i have seen a couple of 19s in my local scrap yard but it has the engine still in,

also noticed that the megane has a a very similar brake fluid resivour and may the pipe work to any one confirm this

so the servo from a 19 td would probably be ok then

You might be able to liberate the setup from an energy 19 with the engine still in place, what with it being much smaller than the 16V. You'd have to check that out for yourself tho.

well .... i started the big strip down today. just got to sort the power steering pipes out, engine mounts and the roll pin on the rh side driver shaft then should come out.
then the fun begins.

is there any thing else i should think about changing whilst the engine out and i am doing the brakes, subframe

dont bother disconnecting the PS pipes, just unbolt the pump from the engine and leave it connected.

obviously engine mounts, steering rack bushes and cambelt are much, much easier to get at with the lump out.

cambelt only done little while ago but will check any whilst easy access.

to change the sub frame does the rack not have to be disconnected?
was gonna do the rear mount and front mount any way did the gear box mount ealier in the summer as it was shagged so assume the others will be is it worth filling the gap in the rear mount like you did neal

ok so prsumably i can then just un clamp from the sub frame swap it over then re attch with out disturbing the power steering at all cos that would be great if i could

well you need to undo the steering column pinch bolt where it attaches to the rack. Otherwise rack, pipes, reservoir, cooler and pump can all stay connected and the subframe dropped with them still in place.

Can disconnect them if you want, I just hate leaking PS fluid, makes a right mess. And just when you think youve drained every last drop, theres always just a bit more hiding in there somewhere to spill out on the driveway/you.

You can fill the gaps in the mount if you have a suitable rubber compound.

Why are you changing the subframe anyway? Have you got a new one?

without the subframe the rack will be left hanging by the pinion and TREs and the fluid pipes will be floating in mid air

i'd save a load of hassle and bring it out with the subby
but thats just me

that sound ok
yup have a new subframe to fit the old one was welded at the last mot plus the under side of it looks to have hit something but car is straight and it generally just looks bad will get some pics if i can remeber how get the on the site

nope TRE have been diconnected think it might just be easier to remove the rack also gives me a good oppotunity to give everything a good clean and inspect it all
